Q: iPhone 6s Distorted Sound

I wish Agnes Obel was the only track causing issues (crackling, static noises), but it isn't. I only cited this originally as an example and can assure you that the same track is perfect on my Macbook Pro and main home hifi played at excessively high volumes. The track is not faulty - the iPhone speaker is the issue here.
Please choose any piano piece of music from iTunes Store or You Tube and they too exhibit the fault with the speaker.
The fact that it is not apparent with rock music and other types, suggests that it may be the pitch, tone or frequency of the instrument (piano) that the speaker 'doesn't like'.
However, it is reasonable to expect an expensive phone of this level should be able to play ALL types of music equally well to the same high standard.
Just tried iOS 9.2 Beta 2 and the fault remains.
Either the software team have omitted to address the problem if its a bug or the simple truth of the matter is that Apple have been supplied with poor quality speaker components which have found their way into the production line.
A simple recall of the defective units and free replacement will resolve the matter, but this could cost Apple millions ... which may be why it isn't getting sorted.
After all, unless you play piano music, you would be totally unaware of the issue - but that is hardly fair to the consumer.
I have reported it and been corresponding with Senior Advisors at Apple and have just received another (6th) iPhone which was supposedly tested before being sent to me ....... same fault remains!!!! - probably because all units produced so far may have come from the same production line.

What I meant is that probably the distortion in my case is improved and now occurs only in the presence of certain frequencies that the speakers do not support in a certain volume. I have the same distortion in my iphone 4s and i tryed that piano music with an LG of a friend and it is distorting too. I mean: if i can't run 50 miles/hour it doesn't mean that my legs are not working well, obviously there are some animals that can run at 50 miles/hour and more, but they are made in another way. Iphone is only a phone not an hi-fi or an amplifier and to be a smatphone, it works pretty well.

Nov 5, 2015 8:36 AMby Salvado89,This is all very pretty, some people trying to excuse the speaker of iphone 6s, but the truth is that if Apple sells its smartphones to one of the highest prices on the market, and are considered by them the best smartphone in the world, then they have to meet the expectations and their promises that they do to the people .. it is inadmissible launch on the market a device with this kind of problem .. My ipad does not distort, my ipod touch does not distort, my iphone 6 not distorted .. How do you explain this? There is a hardware defect / software on iphone 6s / plus and APPLE will have to solve! Tomorrow I will get my second iphone 6s because it was replaced after having claimed the distortion .. I will test the new and try to understand whether this equal .. I wonder if the Iphones that you have replaced, are sealed inside the box, or you exchange only the mobile phone, staying with the accessories and box of the first iPhone? can anyone tell me ??

"The internal speaker on the iPhone 6S models only support a sample rate of 48kHz while previous iPhone models supported a collection of sample rates.
Some developers are running into problems (generally classified as distorted or "bad" sounding audio) due to some incorrect assumptions being made when the requested “preferred" sample rate ends up being different than the "current" actual hardware sample rate.
If you ignore these types of difference and for example set the client format to the hardware format expecting 44.1kHz when the actual sample rate is 48kHz, your application will suffer problems like audio distortion with the further possibility of other failures.
Additionally, even if your application is specifying a client format of 44.1kHz, for example the render callback (in the case of the AURemoteIO (kAudioUnitSubType_RemoteIO)) may call you for a varying number of frames in cases where sample rate conversion is involved. Therefore, it is important that the application never assume it will always be rendering a fixed number of audio frames.
In the reported cases we've investigated, this specific issue was always related to developers code making some bad assumptions about audio formats.
Audit your code if you are getting these types of reports from your users, especially if the internal speaker is mentioned"

Nov 5, 2015 12:16 PMby tpaul76,I have the problem too -- looks like the thread has really beat this one up -- but it was clear when my friends and I were sharing some songs over Apple Music and my 6s just sounds like complete garbage compared to a 6 and 5s. It quickly turned into a "why does your new 6s sound terrible" session.

I think I mentioned before that after going to the Genius Bar twice and using Apple's telephone support, they would not replace my phone. Good to know it won't make a difference. But shame on Apple. It's really awful for those of us who can hear this distortion. Thanks again.
