Q: iPhone 6s Distorted Sound

And where I noticed it for the first time (in the message when I was sending or receiving, the "swoop" sound) no distortion compared to my previous 6S.

SO just to tell you the song is like that. I tried it on my 6 plus and 6s plus both of them had the same sound. But the problem VOIP apps still exist in 6s plus. today I bought a third 6s plus and it has the same problem.

I just created a Topic about Sound Distortion. Mine is happening when I make phone calls and receive them. I hear loud static crackling and popping throughout the phone call, but it doesn't always happen. It happens after 3 - 5 phone calls placed or answered, and I have noticed audio distortion in music and sometimes the sound is louder on some phone calls than others.

This is unbelievable that people are having problems like this. I guess I should try the method of opening a new 6s until I find a phone without the problem, or they can take this phone back and give me a brand-new 6 with a refund. What's happening with these phones? I'm really surprised that a phone is having audio problems and mine sounds new, and someone from Best Buy said he never had an issue form day one and he owns both 6s models.

I played the sound loud not at 100% because it was late (France Local Time). I can assure you it's hardware related. Before in the Message app the "swoop" sound was distorted along with some ringtones like Sunrise. I called Apple to have a replacement, I told them the issue. Instead of 24/48 hours to receive the new iPhone, it took more than a week, I don't know if it's because they send me a new one or if they tested phones before sending it. The result is: I don't have this bad audio issue, it reacts like my previous iPhone 6 or any iPhone I had before. And the good thing, the home button isn't loose anymore

hey Loic, it's unbelivable ...don't know if i ve to request a replacement... I see there are issues with others 6s like shutDown, home Button hot, others issues ...

Appelle Apple et demande un remplacement express en expliquant bien ton problème, il devrait t'en renvoyer un qui n'a pas ce problème. Dépêche-toi, plus tu attends plus tu as de chances d'avoir un reconditionné à la place d'un neuf.

Call Apple and take the Express Exchange telling them your issue, they should send you a new one without issues. Do it quick in order to have a new one instead of a refurb. Since iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 6 and 6S it's the first time I have a problem.

My wife and entire family now think I'm nuts. So I went to the Apple Store yesterday and spent 30 min showing them the text message issue. Mine is intermittent, so it took about 5-6 text messages before the distortion appeared. Genius guy pulled his out and guess what?  He's was exactly like that too. Another 2 genius guys came and they both had it as well. Of course they said that the issue didn't bother them but if I wanted a new one, they would be happy to replace. I declined and when I got home decided to try out my wife's again. First, my wife's 6s never exhibited distortion with the text messages and all I did since the last time I played with hers was update it to 9.1 beta 5. to my surprise, hers also now has the distortion!  I called my uncle up in San Fran and asked him to try and his also has the distortion. So now I am sitting at 7/7 (1 of my friends also has a 6s) for distortion on the 6s with the message sound. By the way it disappears for a bit if you hit the audio message button beside the text entry line, weird!  But unfortunately comes back. Only difference is that I'm the only one that seems to care.

NOw on to the daft punk song. My wife's 6s and mine have slight disortion as well as my uncles 6s. My mother in-laws 6 plus also has it as well as my father and father in-laws 6. Mom doesn't have an iPhone:) Now you know why they think I'm nuts!   So all have it and if you want to really hear distortion in a song play time lapse by thefatrat from 1:40-2min. Once again all 6s and 6 listed above have this distortion. 

SO, I'm not exchanging mine because I'm still not sure what the problem is. When my wife's had no issue, I noticed that it could not get as loud as mine. Now after the update it is not distinguishable from mine in loudness and does have it. Is it software, not sure, is it hardware, not sure, especially after what happened to my wife's phone. Only time will tell and hopefully my family across North America forgives me for asking them to do this

Hey, Hydrate can you please try "slow rise" and "opening" ringtones at full volume? Loïc has made a replacement and no distortion anymore...

slight distortion at 100%. Remember this is not very scientific. My wife hears none. For me the most noticeable is the text message and like I said, if you click on the audio message button beside the text box,  it seems to reset the sound for a minute or so. This was confirmed by all the 6s. So if it is hardware, it is the piece that is driving the speaker as I don't understand how it can be ok then bad sometimes and then you press the audio message icon and then it's good again. In any case, I am no expert and have no idea what the problem is. I do know that if I drop the volume down a tad it also goes away.Except for those songs but that seems to affect the 6 as well.

i don't really notice anything when I click on the American male voice in settings. It's seems that your issue is worse than what I have heard. Best of luck and let me know if you want me to try anything else out.

Hey Hydrate, thanks, no problem when you choose the male in settings, but when you ask Siri for weather or anything else, you can hear the distortion.

This evening was my second appointment at the Genius Bar because of this distorted sounded issue on my 6s.  First time last week no one  at the Genius Bar could hear the distortion and I was told to take the phone back and that if it really bothered me I should return to the store. Needless to say it really bothers me so I had another appointment for this evening. They did the usual testing of the phone and found nothing wrong  with the phone. This person was a bit more helpful however he still wouldn't exchange my phone saying that if Apples gets enough complaints and finds that it is a hardware problem they would do some type of mass recall and I would be notified about that. Do I have to demand a new phone in order to get a replacement for a faulty brand-new phone? Somehow it doesn't seem right to pay over $800 for equipment that is faulty.     Also had me do a reset but not a full deletion of everything on my phone. That did not help and he did say I could back everything up on to iTunes and completely clear the phone and try it again. I may try that however if that doesn't work I don't know what my next step should be. I definitely get the distortion when Siri speaks and in the message swooshes. This was at a store in Manhattan New York City.

Just picked up my brand new iPhone 6s 64GB iOS 9.0.2

Already talked to the care hotline and they told me to reinstall iOS from scratch to rule out a software issue :-/

@craig do you any update/insights on the matter yet?

This was the first thing I did (and a lot of other peope here did). Originally I installed from a backup, so I wiped and set up as a new phone. Trust me, it doesn't change a thing. It will just result in you wasting hours of your time. This is Apple's solution for everything if they don't know the answer. I think I've tried this "solution" a dozen times in the past and it's worked for me zero times. Just tell them you tried it and it didn't work.
