Sep 26, 2015 10:46 AM in response to Fiddler58by léonie,In MacOS X 1010.5 you need iPhoto version 9.6.1.
This update used to be available from the App Store by reinstalling iPhoto from the Purchases history. But Apple stopped selling iPhoto from the App Store, and right now it looks like iPhoto had been removed completely from the App Store.
if you do not see iPhoto in your Purchase History. I do not know of any way to update the incompatible iPhoto other than sweet talking the AppStore support into providing an installer for you. An auto-update to a system that renders your iPhoto useless should not be possible.
This used to work until yesterday: Perhaps the AppStore in your country has still the update. Hurry and try it.
Barney-15E's user tip explains how to update to iPhoto 9.6.1 by reinstalling your App Store purchase.
See this link: Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS X 10.10.3
Basically, move the incompatible iPhoto version from the Applications folder to the Trash (the application, not your iPhoto Library). Then sign into the AppStore and open the Purchases tab. It should now show "Install" to the right of iPhoto.

Sep 26, 2015 10:53 AM in response to Fiddler58by léonie,I-photo is no longer accessible with a 'no entry sign' over the application icon. Any ideas how to restore? I-photo was already loaded on purchase (Oct 2011) and auto updated with the Mac running OS-X 10.9.5
Sorry, I mixed up your system versions.
If iPhoto is version 9.5.1, it is the compatible version for MacOS X 10.9.5. There is no reason for the iPhoto icon being crossed out. Do you perhaps have an older version in your Dock? Or an older version on unconnected backup drive?
Check your MacOS X version in the .menu in the upper left corner of the display. Click "About this Mac". Which System version is shown?

What does the iPhoto icon in your Applications folder look like?
I-photo is no longer accessible with a 'no entry sign' over the application icon.
Is that the icon in the Dock or iPhoto in your Applications folder?

Sep 26, 2015 11:31 AM in response to léonieby Fiddler58,The dock icon looks fine. It is in the applications folder (and I cloud) where it is no entered

Sep 26, 2015 11:39 AM in response to Fiddler58by léonie,Is the Dock icon tied to the iPhoto in your Applications folder? Ctrl-click the Dock icon and select "Options > Show in Finder".
Does this open the Applications folder or a different folder?
(and I cloud)
Do you mean on iCloud Drive? What have you stored there? Your iPhoto Library? An iPhoto Library is not supported on iCloud Drive. The syncing will corrupt the the library.

Sep 26, 2015 11:45 AM in response to léonieby Fiddler58,Going through options as you described, goes to the application in finder which is crossed out,
Apologies about I-cloud. Red herring.

Sep 26, 2015 12:05 PM in response to Fiddler58by léonie,★HelpfuliPhoto 9.5.1 is compatible with MacOS X 10.9.5.
It is no longer possible to update using the App Store, so I see no way to reinstall a different version of iphoto. You could only restore from your Time Machine backup.
But try the following. You can force iPhoto to launch by opening the package content.
- Ctrl-click iphoto in the Applications folder and select "Show Package Content". You should see a folder like this:
- Open the Contents folder, inside this "MacOS", then double-click iPhoto.
Does iPhoto launch this way? It should avoid the incompatibility warning.

Sep 26, 2015 12:13 PM in response to Fiddler58by léonie,You're welcome. Great, that it is working.
While iPhoto is running, ctrl click the iPhoto icon of the running version in the Dock and select "Options > Keep in Dock". This way you can always access it without having to open the package again.

Sep 26, 2015 2:12 PM in response to léonieby Fiddler58,Hi Leonie
Further to your last. The Dock icon is now 'Barred" so even though the Keep in Dock is ticked I have to go through the procedure.
I don't know if I trash the dock icon I may be able to reinstate the old one.
At least I have access to my photos, and all are backed up externally.
I did get a terminal msg
'"CGC context clear" is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update'
Anyways Thanks again for your help

Sep 26, 2015 2:23 PM in response to Fiddler58by léonie,What you really would need is access to an update to the latest iphoto version 9.6.1. It is the last release of iPhoto, compatible with Yosemite and probably El Capitan as well. The problem is that Apple removed iPhoto from the AppStore and you are just one date too late. The only way to get an update is now to sweet talk an Apple Store attendant into providing an installer.

Sep 26, 2015 2:29 PM in response to léonieby Fiddler58,I might just try that on Monday.
As an aside. If I load Photos, or whatever the replacement to IPhoto is, do you think they would synch into the new App?
