Q: I-photo msg "not supported on this type of Mac" although I had just uploaded and edited some photos. Now cannot access i-photo

I had just uploaded and edited some photos, closed i-photo and subsequently tried to access to attach to an e-mail. I-photo is no longer accessible with a 'no entry sign' over the application icon. Any ideas how to restore? I-photo was already loaded on purchase (Oct 2011) and auto updated with the Mac running OS-X 10.9.5

Photos is installed as part of MacOS X 10.10.3 Yosemite or lter.
If you are using Photos, you can transfer your iPhoto Library by dragging the iPhoto Library onto the Photos icon in the Dock (the colorfull rainbow flower icon). Photos will crate a converted copy of the library. You edits and captions, the keyword, your albums will transfer, see this support document: How Photos handles content and metadata from iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support
