The Safari toolbar that has the URL field is not there

I'm using Safari Version 8.0.8

The Safari toolbar that has the URL field is not there sometimes and I have to close Safari and maybe reboot a few times before Safari opens right and has the toolbar that is supposed to show the Show Sidebar button, Auto FormFill button, Go to Home Page button, URL field, Truster Endpoint Protection button, Share button and the Show All Tabs button.

This problem has happened with a number of previous versions.

Is there a way to fix this?

I don't want to lose my Favorites, Reading Lists or Bookmarks.

Thanks in advance

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

My first bit of advice to you is to get rid of Truster Endpoint Protection. Macs do not need anti-virus programs, extra firewalls, or anything else of the like. I did some Googling about it as I'd never heard of it before, and I've seen several people say that it was downloaded onto their computer without their knowledge, as it was bundled in with something else. This is dangerous. Who knows what else is on your computer now that you don't know about. You may think you need this, but you don't. Once you get rid of it, download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. It's a very safe, trusted program, developed by someone who posts here regularly, and all it will do is scan your computer for any malware or adware that might be on your hard drive. I don't know if this Truster Endpoint nonsense is the immediate cause of Safari's troubles, but you still should get rid of it anyway.

To address the actual problem, you say that the top toolbar is not there sometimes....did you check to see if you didn't have "Hide Toolbar" activated? In Safari, go up to View and then see if there's an option called "Show Toolbar." If there is, click on it.

Thank you for your reply.

Now, this is kinda scary, because when I posted this morning, Truster Endpoint Protection was in my toolbar and it has been there for about a week. When I got home tonight and woke up my Mac, I check my emails, read your reply and I looked in my toolbar and Truster Endpoint Protection wasn't there. I don't have any idea how it got in my toolbar. It just showed up one day and I didn't notice it was there until I took a screenshot and it popped up a warning screen and I wondered where it came from. Now it's gone and I'm freaking out because it went the same way it came and I'm wondering what it might have gotten from my computer before it went away and maybe 'phoned home' with to someone before leaving. Thanks for the heads-up on Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. I downloaded and installed it, ran it and it found nothing, but Truster Endpoint Protection wasn't there either. I haven't had a chance to search the web and see what it is supposed to be or how I got it in my Safari toolbar. Anyway, just to recap, It was in my toolbar when I wrote the post you replied to and I put my computer to sleep before leaving and when I got home tonight and woke up my computer, read your email and looked for it, it wasn't in my toolbar anymore!!!

To answer your question, I didn't click on View to see if the dropdown said to see if it said "Show Toolbar", but next time it happens, I will look and get back to you on that.

Also, yesterday morning, I woke up my computer, had one Safari window open that had the toolbar that had the URL field and other buttons and I needed another Safari window, which I opened and it didn't have that toolbar in it . So I closed that window and opened another and the same thing, that bar wasn't there either. Now I forgot to mention that I have another toolbar for RoboForn plugin, which was there in all the windows, even when the bar which has the URL field on it was gone. However, last week the same thing happened and the toolbars for the URL field and RoboForm were both gone. It doesn't make sense to me and probably doesn't make sense to you either. If it happens again or the Truster Endpoint Protection button comes back, I'll run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac while it's there and see if it finds any malware or adware and then I guess getting rid of it means dragging it to the Trash. Then I'll reply back to you again and give you an update. If in the 'View' dropdown it shows I haven't hid the toolbar[s], I'll definitely post to see if you or anyone has any idea how to get my toolbar[s] back directly.

Thanks again

Eric, That link took me to a Rapport 'update' download, and I didn't see an option to uninstall it.

FYI, About a week or so ago, I installed Firefox and only used it twice. I'm wondering if TEP was installed with the Firefox browser, since it appeared about the same time. I closed my browsers and shut down my MacBook Pro last night and when I opened Firefox and Safari browsers this morning, 'Truster Endpoint Protection' (TEP) was in the toolbars of both browsers. Yesterday evening, TEP wasn't in my Safari browser and now it is back again. smh

How can I completely uninstall this from my MacBook Pro? If I just drag the the TEP Icon from both toolbars, will it completely uninstall the program or do I need to use an uninstall tool? I'm going to wait for replies to this, as I don't want to screw up a complete uninstall.

Now I'm having problems with CPU usage with Firefox (11-19% CPU usage when the Firefox browser is open) and when I'm typing at times, my cursor pops up somewhere else where I've already typed and I have to move my cursor back to continue typing where it's supposed to be typing. I have no idea what's causing this either. I've ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program a number of times and it didn't find anything. I also have Intego VirusBarrier installed with realtime monitoring and I've ran it manually and the scan came out clean.

You don't need anti-virus software of any kind. I mentioned this in my initial response to you. Anti-virus software is useless on Apple computers because they're made to look for Windows viruses and you're not running Windows. All it's doing is sucking up space on your hard drive and using up resources. Of course it's not going to find anything — it's looking for something that's not there. As for TEP being installed with Firefox, if you downloaded Firefox from the Mozilla website, then that's not how it got there. Mozilla isn't going to risk damaging their brand by slipping something onto your computer without your knowledge when you're trying to download their browser.

To uninstall TEP from your computer, follow the directions from the program's website --> https://www.trusteer.com/support/uninstalling-rapport-mac-os-x

Thank you pinkstones! I guess I wasted good US$ and hard drive space and system resources on an anti-virus program that seems to be a scam. I was under the assumption that VirusBarrier for Mac was protecting my Mac from viruses that a Mac was susceptible to. I'm guessing thousand of people, like myself, that owns a Mac have been misled by their advertising. Just recently, I paid for another couple of years of protection.[?] 😠 I won't do that again.

I went to that trustee.com website and downloaded the "update" and ran it and sure enough, it gave the option to uninstall it. I was worried that it would just update what I wanted to get rid of. lol The uninstall worked! 🙂

Now I'm back to Safari not having the toolbar that has the URL field and other things in it. Right now I have that toolbar. So next time I open a Safari window and that toolbar is missing, I'll look in the View dropdown and check what it says.

BTW, this didn't solve my original question. I don't know why there is a check mark next to 'this solved my problem'. lol

Thank you for your posts.

Anti-virus programs on the whole are not a scam, as that implies dishonesty or willful malfeasance, and I don't think that's true. What I meant to impart, and obviously didn't do it very well, was that Macs come with something called Gatekeeper that does a very good job of protecting your system from known baddies that could do it harm. An additional program is unnecessary. If you had a PC, I would absolutely advise you to have an anti-virus program because without one, your Windows machine can become a very expensive paperweight very quickly. Macs have a built in anti-virus protector and firewall, so you don't need to add another one on top. The Malwarebytes program is different, as that scans for adware/malware, which anti-virus programs by nature don't look for. I'd say 85% of Mac users won't need it anyway, but if you do, it's neat, tidy, and very efficient.
