What amperage is needed for an iPhone 6s car charger?

What amperage is needed for an iPhone 6s car charger? I hear various stories about chargers that degrade the battery because they are sending too much amperage to the phone and others that say the iPhone can handle it but what is the manufacturer's suggested amperage? Thanks!

Belkin and InCase are both quality products and are sold directly by Apple (as well as Amazon and a lot of other retailers). If you can get one that supplies at least 1.5 amps the phone will charge a little faster, but 1 amp is enough. With ANY car charger do not start the engine with the phone plugged in. The starting spike can be deadly. Some cars disable the 12 V bus when starting, but don't depend on it.
