Q: How do you sync iMessage across all Apple devices?

When I use iMessage on one device (iPhone) it doesn't always appear on my iPad or my computer. Or if I send a message using iMessage on my computer it won't appear on my other two devices. How can I get them to all sync accurately?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Use the same Apple ID across all the devices.
