First Gen iPod touch not connecting to iTunes after new update

"iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch because an invalid response was received from the device" is the error message I keep getting every time I plug in my iPod to sync it.

I have tried every simple solution, restarting computer, resetting iPod, turning everything off and on again, plugging my cord into different ports, using a different cord. This only happened after the new update, worked fine before then.

I have a WINDOWS PC. Another thread offers a solution to my problem, but for MAC USERS ONLY. Very unfair.
