ElGato ThunderBolt 2

Hi everyone

Recently got an Elgato Thunderbolt 2 port. To this I have connected

- 27" Acer K272HLbid Full HD LED Monitor conected through HDMI

- Thunderbolt cable to Macbook

- 10/100 network cable to switch

- 4 port USB2 hub (apple keyboard, mouse, external dvd drive)

- Western Digital USB3 2Tb external drive

The problem is the Acer monitor. When boot up the MBPr it is not recognised. I have to disconnect the MBRr to Elgato cable and connect again, sometimes in the other port on the MBPr.

Anyone else has similiar issues?

Please do not tell me to get an Apple display as I cannot justify the money for it at this time.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

I'm wrestling with similar issues on a similar setup. My main problem is intermittent discos over HDMI.

My config:

- Late 2015 MacBook Pro 15" - El Capitan 10.11.2

- Elgato Thunderbolt 2 Dock

- ASUS VX VX248H 24" HDMI Montior

- Acer X223Wbd 22" DVI Monitor

- Similar peripherals, though I believe they are unrelated to our issues:

- WD MyBook for Mac 4TB

- Anker 4-port USB3 Hub

- Logitech solar keyboard for Mac

- Logitech wireless Mouse

After I've been elsewhere with my Mac and then return to the Dock, the ASUS monitor - which is the much newer of the two - often will not sync. It usually takes rebooting and swapping around the various connection methods; Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, HDMI to DVI cable, HDMI port (dock) to HDMI port (monitor), also throwing the Mac's own HDMI port into the mix, as well as two different HDMI cables. I installed the elgato utility and that worked the 1st time, but hasn't done much since. Truly random.

As I've had zero problems with these monitors when they were connected to my Windows Desktop, I'm honestly leaning towards the Mac being the problem for both of us. As much as I love it, Apple isn't known for playing nice with the other kids. I'm going to reach out to some people in the know and I'll report back any info of value. 😝
