Unable to see iPod Classic on Mac or Itunes

I want to update my 160GB iPod but i am unable to see it in iTunes or Devices in Mac HD. I've switched USB ports, reset it, put it in disk utility and still nothing. I have even switched to a new USB cable. USB ports work fine. Running 10.10 Yosemite and 12.3 iTunes. Not sure what else to do? Help!
