Q: iOS 9.0.1 update and iCloud problem

I just updated my iPad to iOS 9.0.1. My device keeps asking me to enter my password for my iCloud account. The problem is that iCloud is referencing my old id and will not accept any password I enter. itunes remained signed in to my current id. I can't sign out because it wants my password. I can't sign in to my wifi either. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

if I turn my phone on I'm told to log into my iCloud account in settings. I click settings and then it says my password needs updating. Which was done last night with the assist of Apple (was in store with my Mac).

I happened to turn on my old 4s and got a similar prompt. Then, as a test turned off my iPad (8.4.1) and when I turned it back on, similar but one stage prompt. (Like my 4s both on versions of 8).

Since the only common thing is my account among devices, Apple would like to put my account in troubleshooting mode so they can examine it. I've only had the one. And until I got the new phone This didn't happen. (Okay, two common denominators!)

DOes that sound reasonable!? What a pain, though.

Well, you can Erase the phone (Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings) and set it up as new to see if you are able to sign into iCloud on a clean device. If you are, and the issue is resolved, then your backup is corrupted. You then have two options:

    1.     Create a new backup from the 4s, then Erase your new phone and set it up again using the new backup. See if the issue remains. If it does then:

    2.     Erase the new phone again, and set it up from scratch. Your iCloud sync'd items will all automatically be restored to your device (Contacts, Calendars, Photo Stream), but you will have to manually download or sync to iTunes for your media

    Cheers,

Yes, it does come down to that.

I have located a zillion articles about people having the very same issue. When the old 4s started doing a similar thing last night, so I signed out of everything on that guy. Since the prompt was to "update" my password on the 6s and that's what was done, something is awry.

Perhaps I will start from scratch on the phone and see if it does persist. If it does, I believe Apple will give me a new phone, we can try that and if THAT doesn't work I can let enginerring troubleshoot the account.

Thing is, it's doing SOMETHING because when I do sign in per the prompt, it will alerts the other devices. So far, the Mac is behaving so I hate to think it's the actual account.

I'll keep you posted - the Apple theory is that the older software from the 4s couldn't translate to the 9.1 6s. I restored from the 6s back up - but didn't erase it first. But Apple did. And it failed. I've never synch'd over media before. See what I don't know? All Apple here and I don't know that? So sad.

Got a phone big enough to enable iCloud Photo Library and iCloud misbehaves! Or the phone... stay tuned and thank you!

I don't know all the things...

    Thank you!

You can always upgrade the 4s to 9.1 and then do the backup, although the iOS level really shouldn't make any difference. Have you tried turning iCloud Photo Library and iCloud Drive (if it is on) off?

Also, did you sign out of iCloud on the Mac? If not, give that a try.

Best of luck! I look forward to your next post

I don't have the library on the phone yet (had to get it to the cloud first  - another problem).

I have not tried turning iCloud drive off. It does back to the cloud at night, so that tells me it knows where to go and how to behave (a little bit). But that took a network reset.

Yes, I signed out of and back into all the things on the Mac and both iPads- the Mac is happy. I even logged into iCloud there to see my account details with the new password. I also shut down the newer iPad Air and restarted it with no prompts (but didn't keep trying and pushing my luck since it's my son's and I don't need any hassle there!!).

I'd upgrade the phone but 9.0 bricked my old iPad 2 - it was half dead anyway.

Off to Apple now! If only the bar had bubbles...

    Hello.

Update - but not much of one - we opened a brand new phone - and ONLY signed into iCloud with no other data. Power cycled it and the prompts happened - so it is not my back-up but an iCloud issue. That eliminated my back up and device and software as issue. It is an iCloud one. However, they did say they'd seen the prompts to sign in, but not my prompt to update my password, from 9.1 occur and usually have a good resolve.

Apple Support now has the case. Sad me.

Well, that's just a bummer! I know the iCloud support team has been dealing with some odd issues with individual iCloud accounts. Hopefully they will be able to figure out what the heck the problem is for you. I'm just wondering if somehow there is a sync issue with the "other" iCloud services like iCloud Drive, iCloud Photo Library (if you are using that), iCloud Music Library (if you are using that).

I only use the regular everyday iCloud (no iCloud libraries or drive), and have not had any issues. But with software, it is sometimes so hard to pinpoint the source of a strange problem like you are having.

I hope they are able to sort it out for you soon. Thanks for posting back with the updates. Please do post back as you go, if you wish. I will keep my fingers crossed for you

Thanks! I turned off drive on my phone. I have icloud Photo Library but it's only loaded from my Mac. I was going to enable it on my phone. But not with this mess! Fingers crossed. We rely on cloud services. Hoping they start to shine. Especially for us Apple peeps. Stay tuned!

    Hello, Gail!

My last email was that Apple engineering is aware of the issue. We did try and set up as a new device and only signed into iCloud on a brand new phone. Same thing.

Now, my iCloud backups are irregular without "reset network settings" and THAT evokes the prompt as it restarts the phone. So, while I am glad they're working on it, they gave me no work around. Sigh.

I will tell you no other device will get updated to 9.1 until this clears. Yikes.

Thanks for the support - and that's my story!
