Go to settings> mail, contacts, calendars> accounts> your email provider> mail days to sync.
Many thanks for your very prompt response. Unfortunately, the page on my email provider has no sub-heading "mail days to sync". The main headings are POP Account Information, Incoming Mail Server, and Outgoing Mail Server; "mail days to sync" does not appear under any of them. (I'm using iOS 8.4.1.)
Only the iCloud account (which lists Photos, Find my iPad, Documents, etc.) > the list of component apps (mail, contacts, calendars, etc. followed by Mail Days to Sync). My regular email account (which lists only Mail) > no list of apps, just the headings described in my previous reply plus S/MIME (which is off). Is this a peculiarity of iOS 8.4.1?
If you have mail days to sync tap it then change the number of days. I'm not understanding your reply.
All of a sudden my emails quickly disappear and none of the posted solutions work. I despise iCloud. I swear to God Apple is trying to chase me away.
