iTunes splitting albums on iPhone, iPad, & Macs

Hi Arnie,

There may be a couple of things going on here. Here's one thing to check: On your Mac or MacBook, select all the tracks of the album and then go to File > Get Info (or use the keyboard shortcut Command-I). Near the bottom, there's a checkbox for "Album is a compilation of songs by different artists." This should be checked, since the album as you describe it contains tracks by multiple artists. If it's not checked, iTunes treats it as a group of albums by different performers that happen to have the same name.

Also in the Get Info window, look at the field called "album" (second from the top). If this field says "Mixed" in faint gray lettering, then you need to enter the proper album title and click Okay. (Sometimes multi-disk CDs are tagged with album titles like "50 Greatest Classical Works - Disk 1". This causes iTunes to treat each disk as a separate album. The way to tag multi-disk collections is to use the "disk number" field in Get Info.)

If neither of these steps resolves the problem, please post a follow-up.

Since there's no way to edit tags in iOS, you'll just need to delete the original downloads from your devices and load (by syncing) or just play (with Home Sharing) the album from one of the computers.
