Q: iOS 9.0.1 cellular connection drops

Updated to 9.0.1 and now my cellular connection will sporadically drop from 4 or 5 bars to "no service."  Occurs at home too where I've got a microcell. Have already power cycled and reset the network settings.

Just another 'feature' of 9?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.0.1

    Hello, lay3r3.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you have updated your iPhone to 9.0.1 and are experiencing an issue with the cellular connection.  I see you have tried a couple troubleshooting steps with this issue persisting.  There are just a couple more that I could recommend in the article below.

If you can't connect to a cellular network or cellular data

    Cheers

Jason, thank you for the reply but your link is for suggestions that would apply to someone perhaps with a new phone rather than someone that had a fully functioning phone prior to upgrading to 9.0.1.  Also, I noted before that I have a microcell in my home.  You may not know what this is but it's basically a mini-cell tower in my home.  Needless to say, this is a software issue, not a coverage issue.

At this point my phone is no longer of use.  I have to catch my phone at the right moment to make a call otherwise it just gives me call failed.  Incredibly disappointed in Apple on this issue.

    lay3r3,

Thanks for the reply and I do know what a microcell is as I have one in my home as well.  The steps are not labeled for this specific issue.  However, these would apply for this scenario.  This also includes reaching out to us via phone for further assistance as we do want to help resolve this concern.  I will include the steps that I would like you to try pro to contacting us via phone.

    1. Restart your iPhone or iPad.
    2. Check for a Carrier Settings Update by going to Settings > Carrier Settings.
    3. Take out the SIM card and then put it back in. If the SIM card is damaged, or doesn't fit in the SIM tray, contact your carrier.
    4. If you have another device, see if you can connect your carrier's network with it in that location.
    5. Contact your carrier to:

      • Verify that your account is active and in good standing.
      •
      • Make sure there are no outages in your area.
      •
      • Check that your device is not blocked from receiving cellular services and set up with the right data plan.
    6. Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version of iOS.

If you still can't connect to a cellular network, and have confirmed with your carrier that there isn't an issue with your account or network, try restoring your device.

Contact Apple for support and service

While I can appreciate the need for basic troubleshooting, most of this does not apply to a problem that crops up as a result of a software update.  For example, here are your specific items and why they don't apply or if they're already done.

    1) Restart your iPhone or iPad. - as noted, already done.

    2) Check for a Carrier Settings Update by going to Settings > Carrier Settings.  - This doesn't exist as noted here but I did however hit the settings screen to see if a pop-up occurs

    3) Take out the SIM card and then put it back in. If the SIM card is damaged, or doesn't fit in the SIM tray, contact your carrier. - software update wouldn't dislodge the SIM card.  If it works before the update but not after the update a SIM shouldn't be of interest.

    4) account and carrier outages - Same thing... a software update won't cause a carrier outage nor will it suddenly cause your account to get shut down.  Also, other devices on the same account but still running iOS 8 are uneffected - as was this device on 8.

I'm just going to revert to 8.  I live on the road for work and a phone that is unstable for cellular service is just not acceptable.  And it's not acceptable for a company to put out an update that has a bug of this significance.

Back-rev'ed the phone to 8.4.1 and it's solid as a rock.

I Have exactly the same issue!

did you get this resolved and if so please tell me how, I've been without cellular network for two weeks now.

MY carrier just says it's an aerial issue and I have to send it in to get fixed but I know it's a software issue Because sometimes after removing updates/resetting I'll get the network back for half an hour.

    thank you
