RANDOM Popping Sounds in Logic Pro X Vocals

I have been searching the web ruthlessly trying to see if others have the same issue as I am having right now. Im fairly new to recording (2 years) but can make music that I am proud of and know a little more than the basics in logic. This problem has me stumped. Recently While recording a fairly powerful (dynamic) song I noticed this sort of bubbly, popping sound occurring randomly in the heavier parts. Its almost like the sound of someone flipping on and off a phantom switch during the performance. I narrowed it down to the vocal track after a while and did some trial and error and it occurs with multiple microphones. Heres the thing - its completely random. I will hear it in one part and then bounce the track and not hear it. I will preview the entire piece and then bounce it thinking "oh good no more popping" and then find that there is more than ever in the final file. I've tried multiple file types and everything too. Im still learning about buffering and even proper exporting formatting but Ive tried different buffer sizes and have tried about everything there is on the bounce window. Its frustrating because the rest of the mix sounds great except the vocals just have this click/pop to them. Also should mention they are not clipping or anything.

Thanks!

Hey. I'm sure this is frustrating. You provided a lot of great detail but please clarify a few things. You're sure the noise is limited to only the vocal track? If you solo the vocal track does the noise still occur? Is it always in the same spot on the vocal track or does it occur randomly at different spots during playback? Are you using plug-ins on the vocal track? Which ones? Have you eliminated clipping/distortion as the cause? Are you using a lot of samples or virtual instruments? What interface are you using? What mic? Is all your hardware and software up to date? Those are the things id check first. Based on what you sated in your post, it feels like a buffer issue or maybe a sample rate error.

I found it!!!

That popping/bubble sound has been bugging for the last three months. The reason: Microsoft, of course!

By default, Skype makes the popping sound every time a contact got available. One more clever design feature from Microsoft... ***! To disable it just go to: Skype > Preferences > Contacts and unmark the "Play sounds related to contact availability", or go into the Details tab and unmark the "Make Sound" for "Event: Contact Becomes Available".

It worked for me. No more annoying pops in my mac 🙂 Hope it helps...
