Q: Safari has been not responding.

Safari hasn't been working for days.  I can't even force quit it or move it to trash.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

Sorry you're having issues with Safari...

Exactly what are you seeing when you attempt to search a website?

Does the load bar stall during search?

Are you getting any kind of error message?

Does this happen with all webpages?

I can't even open Safari.  When I right click on it, it says application not responding, and I try to force quit it but that doesn't work either.

Try removing the Safari plist and saved application state files then attempt to launch again.

    Here are the breadcrumbs:

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist

    THEN

    ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple

Also, when you attempt to force quit be sure to click the Apple in the upper left corner of the computer screen, choose Force Quit, select safari from the small force quit window and click force quit. These steps are for Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10)

    I don't see ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist anywhere.

Also I tried to force quit by clicking on the apple and that doesn't work either.

To make your user Library visible, go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library and then delete the above and restart the computer.

I managed to get Safari to work again following your steps listed earlier.  As for the files that I deleted, do I empty them out of my trash?

Safari won't open in Apple.com when I click on the Safari icon in the Dock .  It will open when I click on the iPhone in the Apple site but I've always been able to click on AppleCanada and it would open but now it won't .  Also ,  there used to be a small house in my list when I open the HD and that isn't there now .  When I go to " Go " it shows it there and if I click on it , it opens in a different window with a list of files .   Don't see Safari "plist ' anywhere .     I've been getting messages to update Safari , but from what I can see , there is no upgrade available .   Time to quit using a computer ?

Go to Finder/Preferences/Sidebar and check the house under Favorites. That will make your home user folder visible in the Sidebar. Select it. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library/Preferences, then delete the above and restart the computer.
