external display resolution

I have connected 2 external monitors to my new macbook pro via the 2 fire wire cables into via adaptors. The display preferences are not giving me the correct resolution options for the monitors even when trying the "option/scaled" settings.

Do i need to change to a fire wire/dvi cable or could it be another issue.
