what is internal device error when trying to sync to iTunes

I just completed the latest update and now I can't sync my iPhone 6 to iTunes on my Mac. Error pops up stating "cannot sync to iTunes. Internal device error occurred." This happened with last update too and eventually it started working again. Help! I need to sync some music for a group ex class tomorrow!
