Q: updated ipod 5th gen from 7 to 9.  It is now frozen. iTunes will not restore?  any ideas on how to fix

I have iPod 5th gen.  I tried to update to the new IOS 9 and was using the 7.  It is now frozen on a blank screen that has 'slide to upgrade' on bottom. I can restart, but it always goes through set up and is frozen on this screen.  I connected to computer for iTunes, but the computer can not restore until I turn of Find my Phone app on the iPod (which is frozen so I cannot). Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix?
