Can't Clear Mail Notifications in Notification Center iOS 9

For some reason I can't seem to clear mail notifications in the Notification Center in iOS 9 on my 5th generation iPod touch. I hit the little x icon, but the notifications just stay there. Is anyone else having this problem, and does anyone know how to fix it?

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Turn off Mail notification and then turn back on

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
