Apple tv isn't responding to menu button

When I press the menu button on the apple tv remote, the apple tv does not respond. The apple tv responds to all other functions except when I press the menu button. How can I fix this?

Have you tried another remote.

Have you tried restarting, resetting or restoring the Apple TV.

Another remote works but how can I get this particular remote to work? I tried restarting and resetting but the menu button still does not work. It's confusing because the apple tv responds to all other commands except the menu command.

Tthen the remote may well be broken.
