Photos and Ricoh Theta, how to open Theta in Finder

Hi all,

i have osx 10.10.5, and a Ricoh Theta.

When i attach the Ricoh Theta to the Photo App, i can import the Ricoh Pictures, and i can export the Pictures to a folder on my Mac.

Works fine. Ahem, not so fine. When exporting the pictures from Photo, file size will be shrinked from approximately 1,7 MB to 600 KB. That says, the pictures are changed, higher compression rate. Yes, i export in "original size".

But i need the pictures completely unchanged.

Somewhere in Photos there is a checkbox which decides if the Ricoh will be attached to Photos when connected to my Mac. When i set this checkbox, yes, connetcting the camera to my mac doesnt attach it to Photos.

But... i had hoped that i will see the camera as a finder / disk volume so that i can manually copy the pictures to my mac. Nope, there will be no finder / disk volumes where i cam access the dcim folder in the camera.

What must i do to access the dcim folder of the Ricoh theta as a volume / folder directly on my mac?

Thank you!

greetings from germany

Chris

Hi guys,

I think I found a better work around, the "Photos" app is a drag, you can set it not to open when you plug you Theta.

Instead you can launch "Image Capture", which is what uses "Photos" in background I believe, that allow you to select directly a folder where to import, in the lower left corner you can set it to open when the camera is plugged.

The access to mount the Theta as a volume sounds locked by the firmware indeed, which is a drag, but I suppose might be solved when consumer request it, if a large consumer base comes out, which isn't too sure for Ricoh after the Samsung 360 Gear is out...

to get exactly what you imported select the photos and export unmodified original

as to seeing the camera in the finder you need to talk to Ricoh support - that does not involve Photos for Mac in any way and is a function of the Richo firmware

You of course can always remove the memory card and use a card reader and then the finder will be able to access the file structure
