Q: Recovered iPhoto library corrupt

I recently recovered a lost iphoto library using disk drill pro. All my photos are recovered but many of them have black lines through them or just black/blank and are unable to be viewed. What can I do to view these corrupt files. I have been using iPhoto since I bought my first MacBook in 2006. My iPhoto library would not not transfer to photos properly. My iPhoto library was deleted when I attempted to migrate to photos.

iMac, iOS 9.0.1

best  path is to restore your backup from before this occurred

In general it is not possible to recover libraries using recovery software - normally all you can do is to recover the photos and start over with a new library made from the originals in the Masters folder

My iPhoto library was deleted when I attempted to migrate to photos.

Did you delete that library intentionally or accidentally?

You won't be able to recover a working library with any file recovery application but should be able to recover the actual original image files to recreate the library as Larry has already mentioned.

Do you have a backup off your hard drive from before this deletion took place?  You can recover the library from it.

If it turns out you don't have a backup strategy in place you should consider implementing one ASAP.  Without one you are pretty much guaranteed of loosing your data at some time. The easiest to implement is Time Machine (comes with every Mac) and an external HD that's about 2-3 times the size of the hard drive you're backing up.  With such a system you would have been been able to restore a working library in a matter of minutes.

TThank you. I do have an external hard drive, time machine wouldn't work because I already stuff saved On it. Anyways how do I recover the actual original image?

You would need to use a file recovery application like   SubrosaSoft FileSalvage.  Other possible apps you can use can be found at MacUpdate.com by searching for "file recovery".

Most all apps have a demo mode you can use to determine if you it can recover the files you need before you have to purchase it.  You may find more than one file with the same file name so remember to choose the larger file to recover.

    as I suggested

I'm assuming that DIsk Drill Pro has recovered them - only you know what you have recovered
