Typically such issues are caused by dirt or liquid having got into the microswitch(es) under the keys on the keyboard.

Short-term solutions - if your keyboard has two Command keys, use the one that works; if the decimal point (on the keypad part of the keyboard, if your keyboard has such) works, use it instead of a period.

    Long-term choices -

    • If the keyboard is a separate item (not built-in like on a laptop), you can try washing it to get rid of the contaminant. Pull power from the keyboard - unplug it or remove its batteries. Get some distilled water (grocery stores often have it, like for steam irons), warm it (body temp is good), fill a sink with it then immerse the keyboard in that. Slosh it around, Drain and repeat. Then hang the keyboard up (suspend it from one corner) until it is completely dry - this may take a couple of days or so. You can use a fan to help, but do not apply heat.

    • Quicker, or if washing the keyboard does not work - replace the keyboard.
