iPhone 6s Plus battery percentage getting stuck

My iPhone 6s Plus battery percentage gets stuck frequently. Like for example, it will say 87% all day, and then I'll plug it in for an hour, and it will still say 87%.

The only fix I've found is to power the phone off and then turn it back on. Then the percentage will update correctly, and will usually continue to update properly for awhile. But eventually it gets stuck again.

In the 3 days since it was delivered on Friday, I've had to reboot my iPhone 6s Plus at least four times to fix this issue.

I've noticed recently (within the past 3 days) that my battery percentage gauge is stuck at 100%. Regardless of what I do, it's always at 100 and then will promptly die without warning. Spent a couple of hours on the phone with several Apple employees today. Went through all the suggestions and did a factory reset. Still didn't fix the problem and the manager I spoke to was baffled. He suggested I take it to the Genius Bar and get it swapped out for a new phone. He did offer to waive the fee since my phone is outside its warranty, but I'd rather not have to get a new phone at all. Anyone else with this specific problem?

I think there are enough people here with the same problem to indicate that this not an isolated issue. I have never set the time from automatic to manual and I'm having the same problem. Just because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it isn't happening to others. The update to 9.3.1 has not fixed the issue either. Really poor from apple not to have patched a fix for this yet

In my situation, it's only present when I use a 3rd party charger such as my Anker E5. It's not the lightning cable either cuz I checked it in an official apple cube charger. Yesterday I plugged it into my Anker E5, it got stuck at 93% for about an hour, I unplugged & did a hard reset, then plugged into genuine iPad charger to finish the charge. It ended up working but at the same time it seems my battery has been draining extremely fast. That could be a whole other issue though.

I'm not entirely sure it's a hardware issue as I never had the issue until I updated to the latest software, therefore my only guess is that it must be something to do with the software. I've been using the supplied power cord to charge my phone, so isn't that either. It's really baffling! Hopefully something gets sorted soon. I'm not even going to bother with asking Apple to replace my phone if there are others who have done this and still experienced the problem with their new handset.

I've had the same incorrect battery issue with my iPhone 6 since the beginning of the year, mostly started with iOS 9.2.1.

people from Apple have said the bug is trying to be fixed but through the newest updates, it's actually gotten worse. My phone died yesterday at 100% after chsrging it for 5 hours overnight, I only used the phone for 22 minutes before it died and when plugged in, said 87%.

apple needs to fix this issue, because my phone is now completely useless and inconvenient, so I may be forced to go to another mobile company like samsung, because it's just too much hassle now.

ive done all the resets and updates, none work.

There are two different problems that will show this symptom. One is caused manually changing the date and time to cheat on some apps. If you do that, don't. The other is the battery gauge needs to be recalibrated.

To recalibrate your battery gauge:

  • Charge to 100%
  • Run the battery down until the phone shuts off
  • If it shuts off above 1% charge it for a minute only, then continue running the battery down. Repeat until it makes it to 1% before shutting off
  • Charge it to 100% again

If the battery is not defective this should fix it.

hi everybody i have an iphone 6s updated to ios 9.3.2

my problems began when i upgrade to 9.3.1

i have two problems one is that sometimes my battery 'recentage get stucked and the problem doesn't solve by restarting when i restart it shows 1% i should try to empty it completely then after some try it begin to charge, the other problem is that when i connect the charger my receiving signal drops and usually it shows no service when i disconnect charger again signals come back

anybody have the same problems?

restarting is a bad solution for me because it stucks in 1% and need lot of attempts to charge again

dear sir , thank for your immidiate answer. i have cheched battery health with battery life software. unfortunately the behavior is not stable for couple of days it shows 90 percent or even 95 percent healthy but suddenly it shows nan%. if it was some hardware problem it won't even charge the minimum value which the device needs to turn on. it seems that when it turn on some software problem stop charging due to some invalid input. even on the battery life you can see charging status will omit after a one minute. if there were a way to override apple sottware interfere in charging i could understand the problem. i tried to charge it while it was off but as soon as it get minimum charging it turns on and something stop charging although it shows lighting icon near battery which i think is just a sense for the charging jack.

when i discharge the battery some times it goes to the mode that shows just a black screen with an empty battery on it which has only three red line of charge and asks to plug the charger in. when it shows this (it needs lots of try) then it will charge and if i charge it for 100 percent it can work for one day. an unhealthy battery never work one day. hope apple find the software problem. which happened for me after i updated to 9.3

Dear sir im living in iran and here there is no apple store would you please tell me the exact part which should be changed? Now i succeed in charging till full charge but in using now its get stuck in 72 percent. i my self am an electronic engineer unfortunately the behaviour is nonlinear time varient so i guess it must be software problem. and every thing occures after 9.3 update.

I can't tell you what part it is. I can give some general troubleshooting instructions. First, download the app "Battery Life". It is a good tool for testing the battery. If the battery shows bad, replace the battery. If the battery shows good, try recalibrating the battery gauge:

  • Charge to 100%
  • Run the battery down until the phone shuts off
  • If it shuts off above 1% charge it for a minute only, then continue running the battery down. Repeat until it makes it to 1% before shutting off
  • Charge it to 100% again

Once you have gone through this cycle, the problem is likely the battery IC. Visit ifixit.com for help with replacing it. Note that it requires skill at microsoldering.
