Q: iPhone 6s Plus battery percentage getting stuck

My iPhone 6s Plus battery percentage gets stuck frequently. Like for example, it will say 87% all day, and then I'll plug it in for an hour, and it will still say 87%.

The only fix I've found is to power the phone off and then turn it back on. Then the percentage will update correctly, and will usually continue to update properly for awhile. But eventually it gets stuck again.

In the 3 days since it was delivered on Friday, I've had to reboot my iPhone 6s Plus at least four times to fix this issue.

This bug has nothing to do with TSMC processors. Earlier in the thread, we determined that people with both TSMC and Samsung were experiencing the issue.

Case in point, I started this thread, and my iPhone 6s Plus has a Samsung processor.

I've had this problem for quite some time now. My iPhone 6s is just 2 months old. I've been trying to contact Apple regarding this but it seems like I am not getting any help at all. I have tried a couple of troubleshooting steps to try to fix the problem. These troubleshooting steps are as follow:

    1. Restart iPhone.

    2. Make sure that the Date and Time is set to automatic.

    3. Turned iPhone off and on.

    4. Did the hard reset on the iPhone (held down lock button together with the home button)

    5. Did update the iOS version to the latest one.

    6. Did the RAM reset thing. (iPhone not locked, held the lock button, the slide to turn off appeared, then held the home button down)

    7. Tried resetting all settings via General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

The last troubleshooting step according to one of the representatives I chat with is to to a factory reset. But the thing is, I don't have a back up of all my media (photos, apps, videos, etc) And I cannot do it as of the moment because my internet is very unreliable.

I saw some articles online too regarding this issue that I have. It made me feel better that I am not the only one experiencing it. Also, it said that Apple already did acknowledge the issue and is trying to fix it.

I just want to have my iPhone 6s swapped to a new one. How can I do that? Thanks in advance.

    Just an update.

After I posted my first post, I set the timezone to automatic and stopped changing the time (or date). Since then the problem did not appear again.

For sure this is a bug, but it seems that stop messing with date/time makes the bug not to show.

Glad you found a workaround. I would never have seen this problem, because in the 8 1/2 years I've had iPhones I've never changed the time setting; I've always just left it on Automatic.

Yes, it's common practice to change time for earning lives in games.

This is my first iPhone (I was always an android fun) and this is really frustrating. You should be able to do whatever you want with your (very expensive) mobile phone. Or at least, do things that are allowed from the operating system, without any trouble. Why changing the time makes a bug been activated? That's not good practice... And, for sure, that's not what I was expecting from Apple.

Keep in mind, that other than that bug with the battery percentage, the phone is absolutely amazing. Super fast, great screen, etc.

I suspect that it never occurred to Apple's developers that people would change the time routinely, so it would be OK to use the clock to calculate the remaining battery capacity. You can't determine remaining battery capacity on a Lithium battery by any measurement of the voltage, as the voltage doesn't change until the battery is almost flat. So instead there's a circuit that monitors the actual current flowing out of the battery as a function of time, and compares this to total capacity of the battery (which can be determined by the time and current inflow to reach 100%). For example, if it's known that the battery has a capacity of 2,000 milliampere hours, and that 200 milliamperes have flowed out of the battery in 1 hour, then 10% of the capacity has been used and the display will read 90%. But if you change the time setting then the calculation can no longer be made. The only way to fix this is to have 2 clocks, one that you can set, and another that is used only to measure battery usage that you cannot change. So fixing it is a fairly major change.

OK i've a 6s since 16 december and it started to behave like all the rest here yesterday night. I didn't even charge it since i charge it once every 2 days, i put it on airplane mode at 48% and when i woke up one our ago i saw it was still at 48%. After 1 whole hour usage it's still at 48%.

The only time i changed date and time was in december but i didn't have this issue, i've swirched it back long ago so the phone has almost always had normal date and time with automatic syncronization on etcetc. All the standard settings. So it may have been airplane mode, which i actually ALWAYS activate when i'm going to sleep, but this is the first time i'm experiencing stuck battery percentage.

If apple doesn't fix this before the next ios/iphone is released i want a full refund because this is not a working phone on a fundamental thing that is autonomy. So please don't introduce any new sparkling useless feature before this gets resolved.

Sincerely, a guy who gave you 900 euros and is not a thief and always has to provide perfect performances to get his earnings, so do the same

Hi guys, is it normal or bug?my iPhone 6s having the same issue in battery percentage, here is my situation, when i charge my iPhone using Anker 2nd Gen E5 16000mAh from 20%-92% it took me 1.5hours to 2 hours and stuck at 95%-100% for another 2 hours to fully charge but sometimes stuck at 92% and not charging but when i connect it in wall charger it shows fully charge after 3 mins, i noticed that when i charge 20%-92% at 1.5 to 2 hours and disconnect my iPhone and connect it in wall charger after 2 to 5 mins my iPhone is fully charge, i tried to charge different device and no issue.thanks

I've been messing with the date time and my phone has been stuck at 50%.  (6s+ 128GB)  Cycled the power and it's at 86% and climbing.

If you mess with your time it will throw off the battery gauge, because the battery gauge needs a time standard to calculate state of charge. It currently uses the system clock.
