Q: iPhone 6s Plus battery percentage getting stuck

My iPhone 6s Plus battery percentage gets stuck frequently. Like for example, it will say 87% all day, and then I'll plug it in for an hour, and it will still say 87%.

The only fix I've found is to power the phone off and then turn it back on. Then the percentage will update correctly, and will usually continue to update properly for awhile. But eventually it gets stuck again.

In the 3 days since it was delivered on Friday, I've had to reboot my iPhone 6s Plus at least four times to fix this issue.

dear sir , thank for your immidiate answer. i have cheched battery health with battery life software. unfortunately the behavior is not stable for couple of days it shows 90 percent or even 95 percent healthy but suddenly it shows nan%. if it was some hardware problem it won't even charge the minimum value which the device needs to turn on. it seems that when it turn on some software problem stop charging due to some invalid input. even on the battery life you can see charging status will omit after a one minute. if there were a way to override apple sottware interfere in charging i could understand the problem. i tried to charge it while it was off but as soon as it get minimum charging it turns on and something stop charging although it shows lighting icon near battery which i think is just a sense for the charging jack.

when i discharge the battery some times it goes to the mode that shows just a black screen with an empty battery on it which has only three red line of charge and asks to plug the charger in. when it shows this (it needs lots of try) then it will charge and if i charge it for 100 percent it can work for one day. an unhealthy battery never work one day. hope apple find the software problem. which happened for me after i updated to 9.3

Dear sir im living in iran and here there is no apple store would you please tell me the exact part which should be changed? Now i succeed in charging till full charge but in using now its get stuck in 72 percent. i my self am an electronic engineer unfortunately the behaviour is nonlinear time varient so i guess it must be software problem. and every thing occures after 9.3 update.

I can't tell you what part it is. I can give some general troubleshooting instructions. First, download the app "Battery Life". It is a good tool for testing the battery. If the battery shows bad, replace the battery. If the battery shows good, try recalibrating the battery gauge:

    • Charge to 100%
    • Run the battery down until the phone shuts off
    • If it shuts off above 1% charge it for a minute only, then continue running the battery down. Repeat until it makes it to 1% before shutting off
    • Charge it to 100% again

Once you have gone through this cycle, the problem is likely the battery IC. Visit ifixit.com for help with replacing it. Note that it requires skill at microsoldering.

It's already been fixed. In iOS 9.3. Which came out quite a while ago. iOS is already up to 9.3.2.

i have opend it. just clean some pastes and now the problem is gone. but yet when i insert usb cable in thundering port no service is showed. the strange thing is that whetherv i insert the other side of cable to charger or not i can see no service problem ihave tested if i insert the cable when i'm talking on a call all voices gone and if i take it out soon voice and call is yet active. i think it must be a problem of my usb jack. because the problem behaviour is passive as i told just i put in the cable in the other side of cable is free. any body has the same problem?

What are you using to charge it? If you have a problem with the original Apple USB adapter and original Apple Lightning cable your phone may have a hardware problem. If you are using any other accessories, or a computer to charge it, switch to the Apple products.

My iPhone 6s was working properly for more than 3 Month. Now, I'm having a few problems with it. I will explain the problems one by one, after doing all the diagnosis I can on my end:

    • When I charge my iPhone, it shows the battery percentage indicator, but the battery percentage doesn't increase.
    • The charge indicator will stick on the number that's currently on the display.
    • After restarting the phone, I see the battery percentage increase—but this doesn't work every time.
    • Sometimes the phone charges properly, but I have to face this issue most of the time.
    • When I do a hard reset (home+power button), the battery percentage some start increasE
    • Sometimes, when the battery is totally dead and I try to charge it, the phone won't start, and it will only show the red indicator on the screen.
    • I've been facing this issue for the past three weeks. My phone is currently on iOS 9.3.2
    • I need to unplug and connect a few times to make the iPhone connect to iTunes, but iTunes works fine on the phone.
    • The phone has never been repaired before.
    • I've tried changing the charger and cables. I've also recalibrated the battery and performed a restore, but that didn't fix the problem.

Is this issue due to a bad battery, or is there some problem with the phone's logic board?

If the Battery Life app says the battery is good the problem is NOT a bad battery. From your description it could be dirt in the lightning port on the bottom of the phone. Inspect it with a bright light and clean it with a non-metallic tool such as a toothpick.
