Bootable External HD
I've a system back-up with time machine on external hard disk. How can I use this hard disc to boot my MacBook Pro, since my internal HDD failed?
MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Thanks, but when I use restore I don't find the internal hard disk as a destination disc.
That suggests that the internal HDD will have to be replaced. It will have to be formatted Mac OS extended (Journaled) via Disk Utility first. I do not think that the Time Machine option does that.
Ciao.
Now I have an external HDD, I recovered the back-up system from time machine into it, but it doesn't boot the computer. What can I do?
Do you have a HDD installed in the MBP (that works)?
Ciao.
Thanks for all replies. I finally managed to boot my MBP by an external HD after recovering a time machine back-up into it.
I'll replace the crashed internal HDD later by an SSD.
