Boot Camp Control Panel Does Nothing - Win10 Upgrade

I have a MacBook Pro A1286, the one with intel 2675QM CPU. I've had windows 7 running in boot camp on it for years without any issues. Waited until this past weekend to take advantage of the Windows 10 upgrade. I made sure that everything was fully updated through OS X itunes updater first, then rebooted into win7 and upgraded to windows 10 through the media creation tool.

Installation went fine, and I can open the Boot Camp Control Panel but it actually does nothing. Changing settings does nothing, clicking apply or OK does nothing. So all the keyboard and trackpad functions do not work - cannot use the screen brightness or volume controls on the keyboard, cannot right click with the trackpad, etc. Clicking OK doesn't even close the windows like you would think it should. Bluetooth drivers are also missing.

Both windows and OS X are fully updated. Not sure what I'm missing here as I can't find anyone with this same exact problem.

There are quite a few driver issues when you upgrade. Can you try and repair BC Drivers using the BC drivers for your Mac in Windows Safe Mode? You should be able to download them via BC Assistant. Please check the Product Version in Bootcamp.xml before you try to Repair.

Do you have a backup of Windows 7?

Thanks for the reply. Where does boot camp assistant download the drivers to? To do what you're describing, I would need to have Windows search for the drivers in a specific location correct? Also, which device drivers would I be repairing to fix this issue? Device manager in windows just lists HID-compliant mouse and keyboard for those.

I do have my copy of windows 7 still, so I could go back to it if needed, but would love to get 10 working properly. I've gotten it installed on 5 other machines now so far

Be aware that W10 on 2011 Macs is not supported as noted in Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support .

BCA will download the drivers to a USB flash drive. Please ensure that it is a USB2 flash drive. Run only the Trackpad installer and test. They will not show up as a regular HID Device. You can see the Apple-specifc entries under HID Devices. If you do not any such entries, your drivers are not installed correctly.

That did the trick, thanks! I did not realize that what the first checkbox in bootcamp assistant does is just download an installable package for boot camp manager on to a flash drive. Downloading that and then running it in windows took care of everything

Please backup OSX and Windows. Create System Restore point in Windows that can be used for recovery if you have any future driver issues.
