Latest Update messed up my texting and email

I just did the latest update for my iPhone. Prior to that my text messages were received and sent through my cell #. Now they are showing are being sent through my email and fully 50% of my contacts cannot send or receive messages from me.

Go to Settings>Messages and see if iMessage is activated. If not, activate it. If it is, then go to Send & Receive and see if your phone number is selected and grayed out. If so, then check to see if any email addresses are selected and if so, then next check Start Conversations From and see what is selected there. If you want your phone number, then you need to select it.

Hi Chris. I am at the area to see if iMessage is activate. I did select it. Should Send as SMS be de-activated? and MMS messaging?


When I go to Send & Receive, my phone number is greyed out but it has a revolving circle beside it which indicated it is "in the works" - it has been this way for most of the evening. I have tried to select it, but no luck. My email has a black check mark beside it and this is the same email that is showing up to my text recipients - at least those who have been able to receive messages from me.

If you are not seeing a checkmark, then iMessage is not active for your phone number. Try turning it off and back on again to see if it is successful. See this support document for assistance. The Send as SMS selection is for when iMessage is unavailable, and the message can then attempt to send as an SMS, if you have an SMS plan with your carrier. SMS is a regular text message. MMS Messaging is for sending something else with your text, such as photo, video, etc. The decision to have that turned on is yours.
