After updating my phone from the phone itself to iOS 9.0.1 (iPhone 6), it asked to connect to iTunes. When I did that, it said it needed to download the update again. The update on iTunes does not download even if I restore. Now I cannot use my phone because it doesn't change from the "Connect to iTunes" screen. I can't update or restore.
Please help.

I have updated iTunes on my Mac to the latest version.
Not the entire Mac. Just iTunes.
Go ahead and update the Mac. If you want to just get the iPhone out of Restore Mode try ReiBoot.
The problem is I have no access to anything in my phone. It's just a black screen with the iTunes symbol and "Connect". I can't do anything unless something happens and it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I updated the entire Mac now. I just want access to my phone again to get my work done.
Then try ReiBoot

To Reboot iphone press & hold power button & menu button
Hold down until you see Apple Logo .
You will not lose any data .
