Ipod doesn't fit into dock.....

Hi,
My daughter just bought herself an 4GB Ipod Nano. She tried to connect the ipod to her dock but the ipod doesn't line up with the connection.

There seems to be an adapter for the dock to make the slot bigger, which does fit the ipod, but we can't get this to fit into the dock either.

The instructions don't tell you what to do, nor does anything on Apples web site....these are all Apple accessories and came with the ipod.

Can someone please help?

Thanks
Lynn

It's a slot. You cannot make it bigger by putting something in it.
The adapter that came with the iPod makes the slot smaller so the iPod will fit properly. This is used on the Universal dock.

Which dock do you have?
There is a Universal dock (connector in the middle) a 1G iPod Nano dock (small and connector in the middle) and a 2G iPod Nano dock (small and connector towards the side).

The dock is the Ipod Dock
There are three iPod docks. Actually, there are more than that.

You can only use the iPod Universal dock or the 2G iPod Nano dock.
The adapter that comes with the iPod fits in the Universal dock.
The iPod will ONLY fit one way. If it does not fit, you have the wrong dock.
The USB cable plugsd into your computer and then the back of the dock. You put your iPod in as shown below.
This is the iPod 2G Nano dock.

Thanks for that.

The ipod dock I have is the one you have pictured. But I don't understand why it doesn't fit.

If you put the ipod in the dock (without connecting it) it fits. But when you line up the connectors the ipod sits about 2-3mm too far to the right of the dock slot.

I'm not sure if you get what I'm trying to say, its like trying to put the ipod in the slot on the dock, but it overlaps ever so slightly on one side, so won't go in at all.

I've tried (very gently) to slot them together, but the connectors on the ipod and the dock seem to be out of alignment.

I'm not sure if this is a fault or not.
