Q: My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire.  I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

This morning I woke up with the same issue. I have a 64gb iPhone 6s+ that is running iOS 9.1 on the public beta. It was working fine last night and then this morning it wouldn't turn on and the touch id was extremely hot. I was using an Apple issued iPhone charger and the phone didn't have a case. After finding this forum I did the home+lock screen button and my phone revived. The home button was hot enough that I had to use something to shield my thumb while I held it down for 10 seconds. If this was a one time thing it's not a big deal, but if this becomes regular it seems like it could be potentially dangerous and it could potentially ruin some of the electronics in the iPhone. I'll update this if it happens again.

An article was posted on C-NET about this issue (http://www.cnet.com/news/some-iphone-6s-owners-say-their-phones-randomly-power-d own/)

As stated by many here, a Hard Reset fixed the issue . At the end of the article:

" Some speculate the issue may be related to the A9 processor inside the iPhone 6S, which had two manufacturers --

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) and Samsung."

Take this for what its worth, however an article elsewhere did teardown and did find actual

differences in the die size provided by the two manufacturers.

Personally have not seen this but just got the 6S on Tuesday and updated to 9.01 and

9.02 pretty much back to back (9.01 when I got the phone home).

Same issue here. Phone was not being charged at the time. I had checked the time on the screen, and then about a minute later went to check it again when the screen didn't come on. The home button then started getting hot.  It was on about 95% power.

The reset did the trick and it worked, but I would be grateful to know what apple say if any one tries to get them to replace it.

It happened to me and my wife too. My wife's happened on Thursday morning. and mine just happened today. What I did was, I put it inside the fridge for 20 min.

Took it out hold the power and it turned back on fine. No issues so far on both phones. We bought 4 iPhones 6S 64 Gb total. It has happened on two only so far.

Had the same issue with my wife's iPhone 6s. Put it on charge about an hour later the Touch ID was burning hot.  I HAD to hold it down to reset it and in a matter of seconds it was cooled off. Which leads me to believe something was on in the button that should not stay on.

My iPhone 6s Plus 64gb only seems to be getting hot whenever I use the camera in any way shape or form, whether it's in the camera app or any other app which uses the camera.

I'd highly recommend submitting feedback to apple here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ so they can hopefully fix this problem soon.

Same thing happens to mine this morning (6S plus 128gb - running beta 9.1 ) .....

Phone was on the kitchen counter with 93% battery.....checked my emails and then went back an hour later and phone was dead - but home button was RED HOT - almost too hot to touch!!!

only thing that got it up and running again was the hard reset.....which isn't ideal really......it's made me lose confidence in the phone. I also worry how hot it could get and whether it could start a fire??

Should this thread be moved to the iPhone hardware section.....there are several similar threads over there!

I had the exact same problem. The home button is really hot and fixed by resetting the phone.

I just had the same thing happen again. My phone had been charging and it was fine when I would occasionally use it. I unplugged it and picked it up and the screen wouldn't come on. The touch id wasn't initially hot but then I waited and it started warming up. I then reset it and it's fine again. At this point I want it replace but I don't want to take it in if Apple's just going to give me another one with the same problem.

I too have this issue on my 6s Plus 64GB Grey - I actually burnt my thumb on the **** thing!

For the second time this week I found my phone was stuck in a state that looked like it was powered off, but I think it was still powered on as the touchID sensor was REALLY hot, like I mean - this thing burnt my thumb when I tried to reset the phone using the touchID button + power for 10 seconds as recommended by Apple.

Not kidding when I say that I had to run my thumb under cold water!

Happened to my newest iphone 6s plus 128 gb gold 4x times. Disappointed. Using 9.1beta3. Home button (TouchID) isn't hot during shutdown. But phone is dead and doesn't mean how much %% of battery is remaining still. Apple, do something or it will be my last iPhone...

Happened to me this morning. Unplugged my 6S from iPad charger, noticed that it was off (not in sleep mode) and then couldn't get it to switch on.

After a few minutes panic tried the reset (power & home button together for a few seconds) and it rebooted to Apple logo. All was fine.

Can't say I noticed a burning hot home button, but after it was unplugged I was trying to press the power button for a while so guess it may have had a chance to cool down.

The burning home button is a big concern due to the potential for component failure, solder joints failing etc.
