Q: My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire.  I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

I Got the hot home button this morning. I have an Apple case and only ever use Apple chargers. I will be taking it in if the problem persists.

Interestingly if you're not logged in to this forum some of the posts are missing - is this by design or is talk about the burning being hidden from the general public?

This happened to me yesterday afternoon.  I was walking to my car from work and noticed my Apple Watch wasn't connected so I pulled my phone out of my purse and it was a black screen and unresponsive.  My home button was super hot too.  I use my phone as my alarm so I am pretty concerned I did call Apple and the guy said he hadn't heard of this problem and that I should go to an Apple Store and make an appointment.  The earliest was Saturday.  They don't seem very concerned about the problem.  I have to work and cannot go to an appointment on the weekend.

    Hi everyone,

I've experienced that same problem as being reported here by many. I have a iPhone 6s (128GB) and it's been working fine for the past week and yesterday I installed the latest update to iOS 9.0.2 and everything this worked fine.

Plugged the phone in to charge last night after setting my alarm. The morning the alarm went off as scheduled but 20 minutes later the iPhone was no longer working (black screen) and the home button was extremely hot.

Using the Home button and power button down for approximately 10 second forced a restart with the Apple logo and within a minute the home button was cool again and everything appears to be working fine.

Just had this happen to me. Was not being charged at the time. Went to pick it up before heading to bed after a long night of studying to the peculiarity of the screen not turning on. Pressed the home button and was surprised by the scorching temperature. Nearly dropped my phone on the floor (luckily it was over the desk still). No recognition by the phone of plugging in the charger. Hard reset by holding down the Home and Power buttons worked for me (15 seconds here).

It happened to me once with the iphone 6s, touch ID became scorching hot and the phone couldn't be powered on. Managed to turn it on after press+hold power and home button for a few seconds.

Happened to me too.  It was the middle of the night.  The iPhone 6S sitting on the night stand, but not plugged into the charger because it was still at 88%.  The dog woke me up, and I touch the Home Button to check the time... Ouch - the button was burning hot and the screen was black.  I couldn't get the phone to wake up, and the button was getting hotter and hotter.  At 2:30 am I called Tech Support and they said to press the Power and Home button at the same time.  That fixed the problem.  The screen started working and the Home button cooled off.  But it worried me.  What would have happen if the dog hadn't woken me up?  Would the phone have gotten hot enough to catch something on fire?

Apple is sending me a new phone.

Same thing here, it has happened five times since setting up the phone on launch day.  It seems it is related to the system crash issue as well?

Question.  are you putting your phone face down before this happens?  I find the hot home button is only when I have had the phone face down.  the phone lockup or crash can happen face down or face up

this is exactly what happened to my 6S plus on the 3rd day after I got it. With 60% of battery it got powered off. The home button was so hot that I could not hold it for more than 5 seconds. Finally, had to put a paper on it and then reset did work for me. In last 24+ hours no such issue again but planning to visit apple store to get it checked.

    Hi,

same issue here. Had it face up. Just wanted to unlock when I noticed the "hot" home button.

Thankfully I just had my macbook at hand. Just found this post a minute ago. Hard reset did the trick. The home button instantly went cooler.

I updated my IPhone 6S (128GB) to 9.0.2 last weekend. However I am not sure that this is triggering the issue.

Did anyone get this issue without having touch id set up?

Hopefully it's just a software bug.

    Best regards,

I had the same condition occur today on 6s, 64GB, verizon phone.  Hot home button, zero response on screen until holding both for reset.

Just to chime in; same issue here.

    Have 2 iPhone 6S, one 64GB, one 128GB. Both on 9.0.2.

The 64GB has had the issue twice so far (with the really really hot home button, needing reset). Hasn't happened once yet on the 128.....

** UPADTE **  Happened again today.  Had just used the phone for a call, sat it down and the next time I went to pick it up black screen and unresponsive.  Had to do a hard reboot and working again.  Oddly it asked me to input my apple id password again ... Something is very odd with this situation.  iPhone 6s 64GB running 9.0.2.  Hesitant to take to the Genius Bar for fear I will get another bad one. And can't replicate the problem on demand ... Anyone try?  Response?
