Q: Display driver stopped responding and has recovered Error

Is there anything i can do other than wait for an new driver to be released? Is there a beta driver that I can try to see if it fixes the problem?

I just found a slightly newer driver at the intel site that is newer than the one that  you get when you check for a new driver in the graphics pane in windows 10-64

64bit - win64_15407.4279.exe

but the problem remains exactly the same as before 3 restarts of the driver and then the driver is locked out

 

The take from other support websites puts the blame squarely on the Iris driver so I asked at the Intel Iris support forum if there was a  Beta version that can fix this problem that is available to test yet. the sense I get there is that I have to get what I need from a bootcamp update from Apple

 

How do I revert to the driver in bootcamp to see if it will fix the problem?

 

in the same way... Should I try the driver from Microsoft that comes with Win 10-64 if so how do I force its use rather than the  intel 4279 driver

The above Msg is seen three times and it looks like this

this warning popup( with the Yellow X in a circle at the left top of the pop up) in the lower right corner blanks and reappears Three  times and is replaced by another popup of the same sort in the same place

 

Application has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware

Application swtor.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware

 

At which point the game is frozen and must be quit from the task bar.

Are you on W10? If yes, use OSX BCA and download the BC6 drivers package. Run setup.exe and let it Repair drivers. Be aware that it will repair other drivers as well.

    As mentioned in my earlier post, ignore the highlighted file

    Whoops, sorry, don't know how I missed that. What file should I be looking for then? The one called "intellVBGraphics64" mentioned by Windshadow?


    I did start and abort a windows installation before installing this one in fact (because it was taking so long I thought it must be frozen), but I had assumed it had been overwritten. Do you think reinstalling would fix anything?

    If you have a failed install in the past, and it is new anyway, you can remove it. The BCA screen is showing Restore because there is already a partial and/or complete Windows on the Mac. I suggest removing it and starting over. There is supposed to be a OSX Reserved partition which will be invoked for installation. It should also contain the BC6 drivers. Assume BCA will do the right thing, unless you get errors.

    Oh, I see! So I actually have Windows installed already (a full install), but since it's giving me the display error, I was hoping to fix it. If a complete reinstall is the only thing that can do that, I can try, but it seemed like the original poster had managed to just run a little tweak by just replacing a single driver. For me, the best option seems to be to ask a friend who has a mac but NO bootcamp if I can try to run BCA on their computer just to get to the "download software" screen and grab the files I need. I'll report back once I've done that!

    Software is specific to the Mac year/model on which BCA is used to download software. You should only use the software which is downloaded on the same Model (Model Identifier to be more accurate).

    So am I just out of luck then? I'll try wiping the entire PC side, although I'm reluctant to do so without knowing this will work. How can I make sure I have the same problem as the original poster, and that the fix will work for me?

    No, if you are willing to try a manual approach using Terminal and a package called Brigadier. Please see Windows 10 Bootcamp Driver Problem as an example of a manual download.

    So I've really really screwed up. When I tried to install windows, it wouldn't let me install on the bootcamp partition, giving me the error "we couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one".     Can you post the output of

     

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

    sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

     

    The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

     

    Please also see Boot Camp: "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one" alert during Windows 8 install - Apple Support .

    Tried it again, still won't let me remove partitions ("-" is greyed out, although "+" is still possible).

     

    Restarted and started up in recovery mode, but same problem.

     

    Again, for the record, the error I'm getting when I try to restore using BCA is:

     

    The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.

    The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.

    On the bright side, I downloaded Brigadier, launched it, and it automatically detected I was

    Using Mac model: MacBookPro12,1

    Gave me the files, but I can't find the "intellVBGraphics64" the original poster was talking about. The closest I have is "IntelIvb_Win10" or "IntelWin10HswBdwGfx64"

     

    Of course, I still have that dumb partition problem, which I can't seem to find the answer to no matter how much I search.

    This just my personal opinion regarding the quality of Apple software. Apple is beginning to rival M$ in terms of utter and pure blue ice (check airlines terminology on what it is ) what M$ is learning from prior Apple's history. The USB route was discarded because EFI Boot addresses the MBR limits, and this OS X Reserved method was chosen. This method has not been beta tested during the ELC beta, because there were insufficient new machines. I am just pi$$3d at Apple Engineers for throwing this over the wall. .

     

    To get out of this mess, please back up OS X to Time machine, boot into Internet Recovery, erase your internal drive and restore from TM backup and try BCA again.
