Q: IOS 9 and GPS - are there issues?

The Apple tech explained to me that the relevant antenna for GPS and cellular data was hard soldered to the motherboard and could not be repaired - hence needing a full replacement phone.

That would make sense to me, relative to what I understand happened to the 4s WIFI chips or antennas with iOS7 upgrades. On the 4s WIFI chip issue, online somewhere, I saw a fix in which they used a hot air gun to apply a quick wave of heat where the chip was soldered, that would sometimes allow the solder to soften and reconnect. Here's a YouTube video of one of the many services that said they can fix the 4s WIFI situation.

Nov 20, 2015 3:38 PMby dwalbert,The Apple Geniuses replaced my phone today, no hassle. Said I was at least the third person today to bring in the same issue, to that store. I haven't test the replacement phone yet. The thing that's odd, the warranty transferred over to the replacement phone, whichs means I have about 30 days left on a new phone. I hope I don't experience the same problems with this phone!

Nov 27, 2015 4:35 PMby RTS48,I took my phone to Apple and showed them my 4km walk (recorded as 7km) using Runkeeper. They agreed (or decided) that the phone was faulty and immediately replaced it with a new one. I have now repopulated my phone with apps but am still not certain that The GPS issue has gone away - more later.
