Q: IOS 9 and GPS - are there issues?

Since upgrading my iPhone 6 to IOS 9 (and ultimately IOS 9.0.1 I have experienced issues with my GPS. I use Motion X GPS while in the car and up until the change to IOS 9 it has been reliable and rarely (if ever) dropped out even in the centre of cities. Now I have the situation where it takes quite a while to acquire GPS satellites and the connection breaks after a few minutes / miles and a reboot of the program is required to re-acquire a GPS Satellite signal only to drop out again a few minutes later. Has anyone else experienced this or is it a fault with Motion X GPS?

Same trouble with iOS9.1 on 5s and iPad 3. Everything out of warranty...great :-/. I did the test for both devices using offline maps in airplane mode - no location accuracy...

I was calling to Apple tech service, they give me some tips (same like in this topic) without any effect! They use some diagnostic program by distance and for them my GPS is working good - but is not. I must send iphone to authorized service for diagnostic...

Might have a temporary solution: turning off LTE and gps is working great with no issues on 3G. This makes me think it's software and not hardware related. Hopefully 9.2 will offer a fix.

I had the same problem when I upgraded to IOS 9.01 because our IT department recommended turning off WI-FI assist to save on our data plan, You can go under settings then under cellular and at the bottom is a slider for WI-FI Assist. If it is turned off, turn it back on and leave it on... This fixed WAZE and google maps for me,,, I do not have Motion X,

I've been haven similar issues. Did a clean install of 9.2 per genius bar guys suggestion. It did not work to fix intermittent gps tracking.

I'm a couple months out of warranty.

    5s+ios9.2

I went to apple certified service and they find out I had a loosed screws (they are 2) on gps antenna. Loosed screws caused "no ground" for the antenna. They tighten the screws and issue is fixed. It was 10 minute operation and they didn't charge me for that...

Ok my Waze went down - couldn't find gps suggested I go outdoors...

    My Google Maps worked intermittently

Somewhere in the Apple Communities I saw a fix.

Reset to new using the reset option in the General settings app. Then restore from back up  (hint: make sure you have a backup before resetting!)

So far both Waze and Google Maps work as before - great!

Hi There - I have been having issues lately with IOS 9.2.1 with my Fitness Apps, primarily MapyMyFitness and Mapmywalk, if im doing a walk and  have the phone in my pocket and locked and then check the phone sometime later the app would be starting up again and then have my recording but has lost GPS and then when you look at the map it has drawn a straight line from when it lost the signal to when it finds you again.  I am going to test the same with my wifes phone and see if we have the same issue.  If I am holding the phone and the app is active is seems to be ok,  I suspect the app is crashing possibly and then when I click on it its restarting where it left off an hence the GPS loss.  So it maybe IOS 9.2 - has anyone else had this issue?

I've had the same issues for some time now too. Not quite sure since when exactly but definitely within the last couple months. Same story as most here... intermittent GPS accuracy. Went to the Genius Bar today and they reset my phone, restored in DFU mode, etc with no luck. Well I should say it seems to *try* to determine the location a bit better in the Maps app but nothing I can solidly depend on as I did before. I also have intermittent Bluetooth issues as well. The Bluetooth issue culminates mainly as a shortened range which results in quality degradation once i get past maybe 1-2ft away from the phone (no joke). I can't even put my phone in my pocket and listen to music on Bluetooth headphones sometimes. The one thing I did notice post Apple store visit was that if i shook the phone while it appeared to be "stuck" or "lost" it seemed to trigger something in the GPS/Compass and it would kind of pick up where I was for a bit and start tracking. I used the Maps app to track my whole drive home and every time it dropped out, I did that and it *seemed* to resolve it. That being said you'd think it was something damaged/broken in the phone but the Genius Bar couldn't offer any repair services since they couldn't verify this in store. Hoping it's really a software glitch and it gets fixed in 9.3 or something.

Just to add another voice to this.  Mine is pretty much useless at this point, with the gps taking 10minutes to catch up when I'm driving along a road.  Sent a bug report, and pointed out that this makes a fairly essential feature for a road user pretty much useless...

Since updated it, there are times when the iPhone is locked, and I have to reboot to get it working again.

The problem is when I have several applications open in the background, but that before the upgrade did not happen.

Updated to iOS 9.3 and still have the GPS issue. Waze is telling me to go outside when I am and maps shows a blue circle with a radius of about 250 ft- 1 mile. I bought the phone on launch day so I'm well out of warranty. Wish Apple would just address this as a common issue because being away from home all year for school in a town where I don't know my way around is really frustrating.

I also have the same problem, purchased the iPhone 6 in Oktober 2014. I found a lot of people having the same problem:

iPhone 6s iOS 9.2.1 GPS Problem

    Re: GPS problem iPhone 6S

iPhone 6s iOS 9.2 gps not working

And many other links via google.

I understand the concept of a warranty but i feel this is not fair because it seems to be some kind of manufacturing error. My Macbook Pro was repaired without warranty because the screen started to come loose (staignate). I was wondering if we could do something to ask Apple to address this issue, at the Apple Store in Amsterdam i was told it was just bad luck..
