My husband and I had been sharing the same ID. After the recent update, our contacts merged into each others phones. Also, I couldn't text him without the text coming to me also. He has an iphone 5 and I have a 6. We've since set him up with his own ID, but unless his imessage is turned off, I can't text him without the text also coming to me. How can this be corrected?

You are still sharing an iD for iMessage, at least. He needs to erase his phone and set it up clean using his own ID.
Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at. Make sure that only your own information is checked in that setting. Uncheck his phone number on your phone and uncheck your number on his phone.
I see where I can do that on my iphone 6, but don't see that option on the 5. Thanks!
I have an iPhone 5S and you have to make sure that you are swiping down far enough in Settings>Messages in order to get to Send & Receive at.
The only items under Settings>Messages are: imessage, MMS messaging, group messaging, show subject field, character count, blocked, keep messages and filter unknown senders. This phone is a 5.
Have you tried texting to see of the mix ups still occur after you set you phone to only use your number?
My phone was already set to use my number. When his imessage is turned on, I still receive texts I send to him.
On your phone, go to Settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding. Make sure that his phone is not selected in there.
No, I don't have his number in there.
You said after the recent update, but what iOS is your husband running on his phone?

IF his imessage is turned on go back into setting -message - and you should now see send&receive.
On my phone, under Messages>Send and Receive, I unchecked my email address and turned on the iphone 5 imessage. The text went to the 5 and didn't come to me also. The 5 must still be connected somehow to the former ID and email address.
Send and receive did show up when imessage was turned on. Texts seems to be working correctly now and not coming to me.

Maybe your husband is still signed into your iCloud account on his phone. Did he check to see if he is still signed in? Settings>iCloud. Is your account still showing in his phone?
Why can't I text my husband's phone without the text coming back to me, unless his imessage is turned off?
