I clicked "send as text message", now can never imessage person

I don't know if this is an iOS 9 problem or not but I've never had this problem before the other day.

I was using imessages to text with someone and it one of my messages was taking too long to send so I pressed "send as text message". Since that time, everything I'm sending is sent as a text message no matter what. I tried resetting my network settings, deleting the text thread and starting a new one, restoring a backup on my phone, resetting my phone, you name it. I tried this, and this, and this, all to no avail. It's frustrating beyond belief. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have a backup, you can always go back to it. If you restore as new, as it says, it'll restore it with no content whatsoever on it. However, if you were to say take your phone to the apple store for them to assist, that'd be the first thing to try.

It's a step in troubleshooting that will help you eliminate whether or not you have a physical problem with the phone. If you restore as new, and still cannot iMessage this person, you can go to your carrier, possibly have them get you a new sim card, and if that still doesn't work, I'd take the phone into the store.

If it does work, there's likely some corrupt software that the backup is holding on to, which you can't pull apart. You'd have to decide then whether it's worth it to put your backup back on the phone, so that you don't have to re-do everything or piece-meal everything back on to it.

Have you made sure the other person has the ability to iMessage? I've noticed sometimes I have issues with iMessage sending (doesn't show "delivered" message), if the other person has poor reception or data turned off, I'm unable to send as iMessage. The only option then, is to send as text.

Or, possibly try restoring the phone as new (exclude the backup for this test).

Yes, I have imessaged with this person many times before. It only stopped working after I pressed "send as text message" a single time. Now everything sends as a text message and there is no way to return it to imessage.

I have not tried restoring my phone as new. Won't that delete all my contacts, app saves and data, and erase my entire phone message history, etc.? I'd prefer not to resort to something that drastic.
