I'm having trouble installing windows 10 upgrade on my Mac Mini with Iris graphics

I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 on my Mac Mini with Iris Graphics. I've been running Windows 8.1 in Boot Camp without any problems. The graphic driver there is for an Iris 5100. Running Apple update in Windows shows that the driver is current.

If I run the update advisor in Windows it identifies a problem with my Logitech mouse, but says everything else is fine. So I run the update. Except now it says that the Iris driver is not compatible and refuses to upgrade to Windows 10.

I've already tried updating the driver from the Intel site. It says the driver is current. Can't find anything anywhere for this specific problem. Anyone else having this problem? More importantly, anyone have a solution? I'd really like to upgrade. If I'd known the upgrade wouldn't work I would have bought Win 7. But I got a good price on the Win 8.1 and figured it wouldn't matter once I updated.

Oh, and, as far as I know, a clean install of Win 10 isn't possible with the free upgrade option. But I wouldn't mind finding out that it is possible.

I don't see how that applies. My 8.1 installation was fine. The drivers installed from my BC USB work perfectly in 8.1. I did a clean install of 8.1 before running the 10 upgrade. I only started trying Intel drivers when the upgrade failed. And I have no problems with the Intel drivers installed in 8.1. I get the same error either way. Besides, if I run Apple update and it doesn't like the graphics driver, wouldn't it correct it?

The upgrade failure is due to

This implies that your current Intel driver is different from the Apple-provided driver, and the update did change the driver somehow.

There are significant differences in driver and driver management between W8 and W10. For example, one aspect is signature validation.

Yes, and the intent is to try the W10 upgrade with the Apple-provided driver in place to see if it alters the behavior of the W10 upgrade.

Ok, so do you know of a way for me to restore the BC driver without reinstalling 8.1? I have seen on the BC USB that it is using an older driver (10.18.10.4242) that is not available on Intel's site. I see lots of setup.exe files all over the place, but wouldn't want to run the wrong one.

As I've said, this problem occurred before I started changing drivers, but I'm willing to back and try again if that's what it takes.

Oh, and if the tone of my last entry sounded terse, it was just my frustration. Thanks.

The setup.exe in the Bootcamp folder only modifies drivers for Apple-specific hardware, but you are not reinstalling Windows. 😉

Can you check the Product Version line in Bootcamp.xml and post the version number? It should look like the following...

<ProductManufacturer>Apple Inc.</ProductManufacturer>

<ProductVersion>6.0.6133</ProductVersion>

<ProductCode>{FCFFE6B6-BAE8-490E-88D0-097A9DA1C43D}</ProductCode>

The Intel drivers are in two places on some version of BC drivers.

No worries. 😉

Okay, corrected the driver mix up, which I now realize I messed up months ago trying to get the screen resolution on my Sony TV right.

But I've now encountered a new error "Unknown command line option [/DynamicUpdate] was specified" which I'm finding all sorts of references to on the web, so, if you happen to know how to fix that one let me know, and if not thank you for your patience and assist in getting the driver straightened out.
