Q: I'm having trouble installing windows 10 upgrade on my Mac Mini with Iris graphics

I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 on my Mac Mini with Iris Graphics. I've been running Windows 8.1 in Boot Camp without any problems. I have followed the steps outlined here Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support

If I run the upgrade adviser in Windows it identifies a problem with my Logitech mouse, but says everything else is fine. So I run the update. Except now it says that the Iris driver is not compatible and refuses to upgrade to Windows 10. The graphics driver there is currently for an Iris 5100 10.18.14.4264. I know this isn't the official driver for BC, but when I got the initial fail I tried updating it. Running Apple update in Windows says that the driver is current and doesn't replace it.

I've tried forcing the driver to version 15.40.7.64.4279, which doesn't officially support 8.1 but does support 10. Doesn't work. I'd like to roll the driver back to the BC version 10.18.10.4242, but don't know how.

Please see Boot Camp: Solve Windows support software installation problems . This is what I was referring to in your other thread.

Okay, corrected the driver mix up, which I now realize I messed up months ago trying to get the screen resolution on my Sony TV right.

But I've now encountered a new error "Unknown command line option [/DynamicUpdate] was specified" which I'm finding all sorts of references to on the web, so, if you happen to know how to fix that one let me know, and if not thank you for your patience and assist in getting the driver straightened out.

Was there a specific driver which generates/generated this error message?

Here's how I solved Jude525's original problem upgrading from Windows 7.1 with Iris 5100 graphics on my Mac Mini:

    1.  Prepare a USB upgrade drive.

    2.  Boot into Windows 7.1

    3.  Go to Control Panel/Device Manager

    4.  Under Display Adapters, right click on the Intel Iris 5100 graphics controller and uninstall it.  Your computer will then default a generic graphics controller. DO NOT REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER at this point.

    5.  Go to your USB drive, click on SETUP, and proceed with the upgrade.  You will not receive the Iris 5100 error because Iris 5100 is not currently in use by the system.

    6.  At some point in the process, Windows 10 setup evidently recognizes the Iris 5100 graphics controller and loads the proper driver, and all is well.

This is essentially how I finally got the upgrade to work. It seems that driver conflicts are not unique to Bootcamp on Mac. Plenty of native Windows systems apparently have the problem. Not surprising given the multitude of Windows drivers in existence. Just uninstalling the Iris driver wasn't enough for me though, so I found a list of all the drivers that could be safely uninstalled and just did them all. Sorry, but I don't remember what board I found that list on, I think a Microsoft user forum. Upgrade ran without a hitch. Then I re-ran Bootcamp Assistant to download latest drivers, rebooted in Windows and ran Setup from the thumb drive. Upgrade complete, drivers in place, everything seems happy so far.

I want to say how very grateful I am to Loner T for their persistent and timely responses to my requests. The whole process was frustrating, but at least not impossible.
