you create a new message to just the sender only if you want your response to just go to that person.

I have had previous phones where there is a setting within the phone itself that makes it so that all group messages are responded to using only the sender. This was a setting in the phone that I found very helpful and I want to know how to do this with the iphone 6 plus and 4s.

Not everyone that are receiving group messages from me or who I am receiving group messages from have an iphone.
