can I disable the 'shortcut bar' from popping up?

Hi,

I don't even know if I have the correct name for this feature, but here goes.

Every time I start typing (or tap a field in which I could type) on my iPad (Air), a bar/ribbon appears at the bottom, showing undo, clipboard, etc. icons.

I can hardly find anything online about it so I'm guessing most people love it, but I don't.

Particularly annoying is that this bar blocks my view in some websites/apps, for example the iPad Flickr app: when you want to comment on a photo in the Flickr app, the comment field is so low that it is blocked from view by the shortcut bar.

So, in short - is there a way to prevent this bar from automatically popping up?

Demo! That is totally it! I'm so pleased, thank you.

Two remarks:

1. the key next to the microphone key has a globe icon, didn't instantly link that to being the 'emoticon' key;

2. I have Dutch language settings on my iPhone and where apparently the English version says 'Shortcuts', the Dutch version says 'Trefwoorden' (both at the globe icon button and in Settings>General>Keyboards) which does absolutely NOT mean shortcuts but means 'keywords'! Very surprising - the word 'keywords' doesn't have anything to do with a shortcut bar, it makes absolutely no sense with regards to this. Even if I would have thought of tapping and holding that globe icon key, seeing the option to turn off 'keywords' would not tell me in any way that that had to do with the shortcut bar. And I DID of course go through the Settings options for keyboards, but why would I think turning off something called 'keywords' to disable the shortcur bar? So weird, this genuinely sounds like a translation mistake.

So, without you, I would have never known. Was searching for hours (literally) and the solution took me a few seconds. Very pleased, thanks.

Tap and hold down on the emoticon key next to the microphone and select Shortcuts>Off. You can also turn it off in Settings>-General>Keyboard>Shortcuts>Off.
