13" A1342 macbook won't power on?

Symptom: Power cord led glows green then amber when connected to mag. What might be most probable bad part? battery, motherboard, DC magboard, fuse or connector?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5)

Thank you. There appears to be one or more weak links in this computer series. I was trying to get a most likely bad part from other A1342 users experience. This Mac is 5 years old so is it cost effective to repair? It has a GHz FSB which is good. However, it does not have an i7 quad cpu which is not good. I have the skill and experience to replace any of the suspected parts. However is it worth the time and money to fix it? I will stop by the Apple Store to see what a Genius would require to repair it. Some time later in the week when the line to get into the Store is not so long. The Mac has an HDD that would need to be replaced with an SSD to bring it closer to today's standard. Also, can it even be upgraded to current OS X? Thanks again. Your response helped to define the decision paths.

I'm still using late2008 MacBook which has 2.0GHz Core2Duo, 8GB of memory and 250GB HDD(planning to replace 256GB SSD) and 1.4GHz Core2Duo, 2GB RAM and 256GB SSD MacBook Air as sub systems. Both system running Yosemite, though it's not that bad performance both system and usable.

If it's not that costly to repair your MacBook, I think upgrade RAM as well as replacing HDD to SSD is not that bad idea.

Anyway I hope your MacBook is fixable without high cost.

Yosemite is good. I found a forum under MacRumors from 2011 that discusses the troubleshooting procedures to address this issue. I will start checking prices now of the various possible parts that may need to be replaced. The amber led on the magsafe indicates that the battery is charging so I will continue from this starting point.

Went to Genius Bar at the Apple store today. The cost to repair the MacBook is several hundred dollars if the problem is the motherboard. However, discussing the problem with the genius gave me some additional insight on how to proceed. The parts that are considered good are the magsafe, battery, hard drive, memory and optic drive. The display could be an issue but is probably good. So basically, the motherboard or the keyboard are the likely problems. Troubleshooting should identify the most likely bad part. Then cost of the bad part will be the deciding factor. Thanks again for the help.
