can you convert 4k video to 1080p

I'm not sure about this and I don't currently have a way to test. If it can be opened, however, it can definitely be scaled to 1080.

If you have a short clip that you'd like tested, upload to Dropbox (or some other file sharing service) and post the download link. We will then be able to tell you.

Short answer... no. Don't waste you time on it. FCPX and Motion 5 can do this.

This free app can do this, Mpeg StreamClip. It can do batch processing too!

David, So Compressor will not open files with this format and Streamclip will? Interesting; I wouldn't have guessed that The only 4K XAVC I've tried is Canon's, which FCP X would open – but not either Compressor or Streamclip.

To reiterate what David said, don't spend any money on a "video converter" to scale your videos from 4K to 1080.
