Are there plugins for Apple Photos.

Are there plugins as yet, to extend the capability of Photos? MacPhun is coming out with Creative set 2016. Will it interface with Photos directly? as plugins?

Actually, from the MacPhun blog http://macphun.com/blog/photos-for-mac-extensions-el-capitan

...our 3rd dream — extensions for Photos for Mac — is now a reality.

From now on, if you have El Capitan, you can use Intensify, Snapheal, Tonality and Noiseless as Photos extensions.

New updates for Intensify, Tonality, Noiseless and Snapheal are already live. For current users, these updates are free.

I have Intensify. Today an update was available to version 1.1.0. After updating, in System Preferences I found the Intensify extension. I checked the box to turn it on. Then in Photos I selected a photo, clicked Edit, then Extensions. A small window opened which allowed me to choose Intensify. I clicked to choose the Intensify plugin. A window opened which in the title bar said Photos - Intensify, and there were buttons to Cancel and Save Changes.

So far so good. Now for the bad news.

The rest of the window was a black blank. No photo, no edit tools, nothing. I waited a while. No change. I clicked Cancel, OKed a Don't Save Changes dialog, and ... nothing happened. I had to quit and restart Photos to escape. After restarting Photos the Intensify extension still did not work.

So, extensions are available now. Unfortunately, it seems they do not work yet.

I have run DFA on all disks. No error found. I hesitate to Repair Library because when I do, after the repair my iCloud library thinks it haste to reformat and re-upload the entire library, which takes a large amount of interned bandwidth for about a week. I do not want to go through all that until I see some evidence that the Intensify plugin works.

Has anyone used the Intensify plugin successfully with Photos?

Update

This week after upgrading to El Capitan, I downloaded 3 pieces of software from MacPhun to use as extensions to Photos. Intensify didn't work at all as an extension and hangs up Photos if you try and access it. It did work as a standalone. The noise reduction program worked as an extension and produced good results but is painfully slow. The only one of the three that worked even reasonably well as an extension was Snapheal.

So it appears that the problem of Photos (which is too limited to be of any serious benefit) has not yet been solved by extensions, at least from MacPhun.

As well as posting here and in a couple of other Discussion threads, I filed a Problem Report with Apple's Feedback Assistantand sent emails detailing the issue to MacPhun. Today in the App Store I found Intensify 1.1.1 released with the comment

Critical bug fixes when working inside Photos for Mac in El Capitan. Than you for using Intensify and reporting the issues. We've updated the software based on your feedback.

I'm sure others also reported the issue, but I took that personally. 🙂

I downloaded the update, launched Photos. and tried it. The Intensify extension now works. In my very brief testing it does a good job improving my photos. There are a lot of adjustable parameters. I expect Intensify's performance will improve as I learn how to use it. 😎

The bigger result is that extensions do now work in Photos, and companies are releasing products which considerable improve its capabilities. This looks very good for the future of Photos.
