Q: External Display not working properly (because of Mini Display Port issue?)
I've been using my MacBook Pro (mid 2012) in combination with my external Philips monitor for quite a while now, usually without any major issues. I use a cable to connect it from the Mini Display Port to the HDMI on my monitor. From time to time I also connect my Mac to my television through the same cable. As of this morning, my external refused to function. The screen stayed black. The only thing that solved it was changing the settings from 1080p to 720p. Connecting my MacBook to my television also gives problems with snow effects on the screen. I've tried connecting both the external monitor and the television to a MacBook Air and that worked just fined. This caused me to believe that my MiniDisplay Port might be broken. The laptop isn't damaged and didn't fall. I've tried resetting my PRAM and SMC, both without any effect.
Has someone else experienced this issue? Is there a known solution, other than having it checked at a store?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Best,
Thom
