Setting accessibility options in mac os 9

How do you set accessibility functions on an imac for people:
-that are blind
-with hearing problems
-with difficulties using the keyboard etc.

Thx in advance for your attention.

Hi, ola -

All OS 9 install CDs (both retail OS 9 Install CDs and original Software Install CDs for OS 9 that come with a machine) include additional software items that address some of those items. These can be found in the CD Extras folder on the CD; scroll down to locate the folder Universal Access, open it - inside are two control panels and a ReadMe.

The ReadMe gives a brief explanation about the items. To install the control panels, copy them to your hard drive, then drop them into the closed System Folder and restart.

The Sound control panel offers a few items for speaking alert messages aloud.

There is also a Text-to-Speech function built-into SimpleText (the machine will read the document, or a selection from it, aloud); some other programs may also incorporate that feature.

In general, though, it is necessary to use 3rd-party software to set the machine up for someone who has no vision. I'm aware such exists, but am not familiar with any. Perhaps someone who is familiar with such software will post in with info about it.

Hi, ola fashola. You may want to take a look at this site belonging to a consultant and vendor of accessibility-related software and hardware systems. My wife is a librarian, and her library has acquired several products and systems through this company to aid variously handicapped patrons in using the library's computers and other resources.

For the blind, one excellent product that I know is available for Macs is Kurzweil 3000.
