How to get rid of excess "Other" storage??

I have an iPod touch 5 16GB. When I open up iTunes it shows that I have 1.60GB stored in "Other". I know part of this consists of the software & stuff like that but how do I get rid of the excess data? Before I only had less than 1GB. What's being stored in it & how do I get rid of the excess?

Oh & I have ios 8.2 currently. I haven't downloaded ios9 yet.

An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.

What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It

What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

To restore from backup see:

iOS: How to back up

To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

iTunes: Restoring iOS software

With only 1.6 GB I would not do anything

How to get rid of excess "Other" storage??
