Sound appearing on timeline whilst timeline is empty

Hi guys, I am using FCPX to edit promo videos. However, sometimes a sound appears on the video that I am editing, whilst no sound is used on that part. It's hard to explain; it’s like you’ve accidentally left a piece of a video on top of a timeline, but this time no video or sound is actually there. (although it IS sound from one of the videos). It’s really annoying and I can’t seem to find what it is. It has happened to me a few time with different videos/timelines. Does anyone know what this is? Also, it doesn’t disappear when you change the footage for other footage.

That is weird. Delete preferences (usually start by doing this when something is weird!).

Also, delete render files.

If it does not go away, maybe the project is corrupt. Select all, copy, and paste into a brand new project.

In two years of working with FCPX, I have not experienced this phenomenon.

But back in the olden days of FCP&, ghost-like audio or audio mismatches were solved by simply quitting FCP7 and restarting the Macintosh.

Having exact same problem. And have tried troubleshooting by creating new project, trashing and reimporting clips, bringing into storyline sans audio, PLEASE if anyone can help .... this is a maddening bug of sorts ...

Thanks for the messages. However, it doesn't seem to work. If I create a new event and a new timeline and cut and paste the project up until that weird noise happens, it still goes on to play and that noise comes on again. I just don't get it. It's really annoying.

I tried this: "

Did you try developing audio to see if you don't have an hidden J-Cut or L-Cut ?

Select your clip then hit ^+S"

and it worked!
